These encounters have shaped our societies, our cultures, and thereby also our language. With two new series on multilingualism, we provide new scientific outlets which can inform current debates in society at large and contribute scientific facts and models to the discussions. These two series complement each other nicely:\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"magicdomid5\" class=\"ace-line\"><a href=\"http:\/\/langsci-press.org\/catalog\/series\/cib\"><span class=\"author-a-z71zdaz78z4z68zrz67zhrz67zz68zgz65zz72zz77z i\"><i>Current Issue<\/i><\/span><span class=\"author-a-z86zz88zaz89zz122zoz67zoz72zz75zz122zaydrg i\"><i>s<\/i><\/span><span class=\"author-a-z71zdaz78z4z68zrz67zhrz67zz68zgz65zz72zz77z i\"><i> in Bilingualism<\/i><\/span><\/a> <span class=\"author-a-1sq4r1z85zlbz88zhcz77z22z87z\">\u2013 <span class=\"author-a-z71zdaz78z4z68zrz67zhrz67zz68zgz65zz72zz77z\">edited by Andrea C. Schalley (Karlstad), M Carmen Parafita Couto (Leiden), Susana <\/span>A. <span class=\"author-a-z71zdaz78z4z68zrz67zhrz67zz68zgz65zz72zz77z\">Eisenchlas (Griffith), Galina Putjata (M\u00fcnster), and Jorge Vald\u00e9s Kroff (Florida)<\/span> \u2013 publishes both theoretical and empirical studies on individual and societal bilingualism, and hence bridges the gap that has traditionally been reflected in different approaches to the field. It covers both linguistic and cognitive as well as educational, affective, and social aspects of speakers&#8217; bilinguality.<\/span><\/div>\n<div id=\"magicdomid6\" class=\"ace-line\"><a href=\"http:\/\/langsci-press.org\/catalog\/series\/cam\"><span class=\"author-a-z71zdaz78z4z68zrz67zhrz67zz68zgz65zz72zz77z i\"><i>Contact and Multilingualism<\/i><\/span><\/a><span class=\"author-a-z71zdaz78z4z68zrz67zhrz67zz68zgz65zz72zz77z\"> <span class=\"author-a-1sq4r1z85zlbz88zhcz77z22z87z\">\u2013 <\/span>edited by Isabelle L\u00e9glise &amp; Stefano Manfredi (both CNRS SeDyL)\u00a0<span class=\"author-a-1sq4r1z85zlbz88zhcz77z22z87z\">\u2013 <\/span> on the other hand looks<\/span><span class=\"author-a-z122z7z77zz84zmz73zz69z2qbz66zgcz75z6b\"> at multilingual practices and language contact both at individual and societal levels together with<\/span><span class=\"author-a-z71zdaz78z4z68zrz67zhrz67zz68zgz65zz72zz77z\"> historical, <\/span><span class=\"author-a-z122z7z77zz84zmz73zz69z2qbz66zgcz75z6b\">socio-<\/span><span class=\"author-a-z71zdaz78z4z68zrz67zhrz67zz68zgz65zz72zz77z\">anthropological<\/span><span class=\"author-a-z122z7z77zz84zmz73zz69z2qbz66zgcz75z6b\"> and <\/span><span class=\"author-a-z71zdaz78z4z68zrz67zhrz67zz68zgz65zz72zz77z\">typological <\/span><span class=\"author-a-z122z7z77zz84zmz73zz69z2qbz66zgcz75z6b\">issues<\/span><span class=\"author-a-z71zdaz78z4z68zrz67zhrz67zz68zgz65zz72zz77z\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div id=\"magicdomid7\" class=\"ace-line\"><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div id=\"magicdomid8\" class=\"ace-line\"><span class=\"author-a-z71zdaz78z4z68zrz67zhrz67zz68zgz65zz72zz77z\">Both series<\/span> <span class=\"author-a-z71zdaz78z4z68zrz67zhrz67zz68zgz65zz72zz77z\">have editorial boards of reputable scholars spanning several continents (CIB: 4, CAM: 6). This book will offer a synthesis of current expertise on contact-induced change in Arabic and its neighbours, with contributions written by many of the leading experts on this topic. Its purpose is to showcase the current state of knowledge regarding the diverse outcomes of contacts between Arabic and other languages, in a format that is both accessible and useful to Arabists, historical linguists, and students of language contact.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Linguists have always known about the importance of contact between different ethnic and cultural groups.
