Announcement: PRIVACY China Workshop at the University of Oxford, 3 July
We are pleased to announce our PRIVACY China workshop at St Antony’s College, University of Oxford, 3 July 2025.
The workshop brings together international scholars and stakeholders to explore how privacy is understood, contested, and visualised in contemporary China. Sessions will critically examine privacy in authoritarian contexts, explore the party-state’s perspective on surveillance, and offer citizen-focused views from digital and rural China. The day will end with creative approaches to visualising privacy, including discussions on facial recognition and a documentary film.
The full programme will be published soon.
Registration Required: To facilitate planning and ensure appropriate arrangements, we kindly ask you to register in advance. Please do so by sending an email to Lena Wesemann at lena.wesemann[at]fu-berlin.de, including your name, affiliation, and a brief note on your interest in the workshop. Registration is free but required for participation.
We look forward to welcoming you in Oxford for what promises to be an engaging and thought-provoking event.
