Research interests: 

Culture and crisis of work in late capitalism, contemporary television series, neoliberal governmentality, theories of subjectivity and ideology, Marxism, psychoanalysis, Cultural Studies, theatre and right-wing metapolitics.

My PhD project examines representations of work in early 21st-century US “quality TV” through Marxist theory, psychoanalysis, and Cultural Studies, focusing on how these series negotiate crises and transformations of labour, ideology, and social reproduction under contemporary capitalism.

Short bio:

Michael Beron is a PhD candidate at the Institute for Philosophy and the History of Literature, Science and Technology at Technische Universität Berlin. He studied Theatre Studies, Philosophy, and Hispanic Studies in Mainz and Berlin and was a doctoral fellow of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation. His research draws on Marxist theory, psychoanalysis, and Cultural Studies in order to interrogate contemporary formations of ideology, subjectivity and culture. Further research interests include the metapolitics of the contemporary New Right and its interventions into theatre and cultural institutions. Within the context of T&E, he is particularly interested in the theatricality of capitalist forms of subjectivation, the staging of work and crisis, and the production and contestation of social reality.
