Call for Participation for our Summer Symposium in Saulkrasti, Latvia

Summer 2026 Symposium of the collaborative research project Studies in Remoteness. Sensoria of Absence, Distance and Neglect. LINK TO CFP HERE!
The symposium will be held as a part of the Nordic Summer University's summer session in Saulkrasti, Latvia from 24-31 July 2026.
- 9 April 2026: Scholarship applications
- 1 May 2026: Applications from those with secured funding (institutional, self-funded, etc.)
- 15 May 2026: Non-presenting participant applications

Publications by the Studies in Remoteness team - Open Access!

Lindsey Drury's "Travelling into the Dark: The Circumpolar North, Indigenous Art, and Settler Aesthetics of Remoteness" and Shiluinla Jamir's "Revisiting my Grandmother's Garden" are now published by ARTS Journal (MDPI) as a part of the special issue project on Artistic Imagination and Social Imaginaries co-edited by Laura Hellsten and Eduardo Abrantes.

Written during the conceptualization of Studies in Remoteness, the two articles discuss core concepts of the project.

Winter Symposium 2026: Duplicity/Duplicität: Betwixt Intimates and Strangers

The opening session of Studies in Remoteness brought more than 30 researchers from around the world to Berlin for a 3-day symposium in January of 2026.
