Our trip to the Giant’s Causeway and the first working-experiences

Hi there!

Yesterday was our „little“ trip to the Giant’s Causeway, with some more stops at other famous places, so actually the trip took the whole day. The first half of the day was quite rainy, thats why I hadn’t so much confidence in the racy driving style of the bus driver. He even loses ground twice, but then the weather cleared up and stayed steady. Even so you should have a rain jacket with you, because you definitively catch a cold if you sit in the bus with wet closes. Thanks to the nice weather at the second half of the day we were able to make some REALLY awesome pictures. The next stop after the Giant’s Causeway was the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge which has a pretty interesting history itself. And it is possible to cross the bridge free-handed, but I guess that depends on the wind force. And today I had my first day at work here in Ireland. The day all in all was pretty calm and started with a little introduction to the colleages and an overview of the rooms. After that I even could take part in the weekly meeting, or rather a common breakfast.

The first week is over

Hi there!

Right now, we are quite exactly one week in Ireland. We have passed our language school and made our first experiences with the country and the people. Taken as whole the lessons at the language school offered nothing really new for me, but I think they were a good preparation to adjust oneself to speak English, considering that we only can speak English starting on Monday. The language school aside, I guess we spent most of our time walking around. I’ve already been thinking of buying a bike, but actually I am lucky enough to have the shortest commute, so I will await the course of events. Today was our lazy day, we slept until noon and had breakfast. Maybe we will do something in the evening. Tomorrow we will visit the Gaints Causeway, so I hope the weather stays steady.

Belfast’s different

Hi there!

I guess if someone travels to an other country, it’s impossible to not compare the surroundings to your home country. That’s why I can say: Belfast is definitely different than Berlin. The left-hand driving aside, the first things I’ve noticed were some differences related to the traffic here in Belfast. First of all, the traffic lights here have 3 phases, one phase for each direction of motorized traffic and one phase whereby all pedestrian lights are green. I haven’t decided yet, if that’s a benefit, or not. Then, the most crossroads here have an extra area for bicyles, so if the green light goes on, the cyclists can start at first.

The next thing I’ve noticed were these kerbstones. Thanks to the high number of openings the possibility of a clogged drain is much lower. I think thats brilliant.

At the end one picture I made yesterday. „The irish weather is coming.“ And yes, it CAME! 🙁

Some impressions of the flight

Hi there!

Yeah, how shall I begin? First of all, I guess we all are arrived fit and healthy. We started in Berlin Schoenefeld with a delay of 10 minutes but reached the cost of Denmark already quite precisely after an hour, so that was no problem. The Aer Lingus machine was quite small, so even I, whose last flight was 4 or 5 years ago, can say that you feel every single air-hole with a small plain, at least at the start and the landing. But all in all the flight was nice, a bit warm, but the stewardesses were really friendly. Sometimes I wished to have my telephoto with me to study some oil rigs and ships on the ocean.

But there were also some mysterries. Sometimes the clouds looked like they would form a straigt line. I would speculate that this were the shadows of some upper jet trails. Maybe one of our readers know that phenomenon. I am looking forward to see your ideas in the comments. 😉

Regards Nick.
