Die Hilfsbereitschaft der Ungarn

Nicht nur der Balaton, welcher Treffpunkt war, um Menschen aus dem Westen und aus dem Osten, die durch den Eisernen Vorhang getrennt worden waren, wieder zusammenzuführen, sondern auch Ungarn als Land an sich, das durch seine Nähe zu Österreich ein gängiger Zwischenstopp auf der Flucht aus dem Osten war, spielen im Kontext der Ost-West-Kontakte eine entscheidende Rolle. Kurz bevor im Sommer 1989 der Eiserne Vorhang geöffnet wurde, strömten tausende DDR Bürger nach Ungarn, weil sich dort eine Gelegenheit bot, die Grenze zu überwinden. Durch die geplante Flucht, hatten sie nur das Nötigste bei sich und somit fehlte es an so manchem. Die Hilfsbereitschaft der Ungarn war enorm. Mit welcher Selbstverständlichkeit und Selbstlosigkeit sie den Massen an Flüchtlingen geholfen haben, wurde während unseres Zeitzeugengesprächs im Malteser Hilfswerk in Budapest deutlich. Bis zu 1200 Menschen wurden dort täglich versorgt und betreut. Zusätzlich wurden Flüchtlinge in ansässigen Familien untergebracht. Einer der Zeitzeugen erzählte von sechsköpfigen ungarischen Familien, die trotz des begrenzten Platzes nicht zögerte, Flüchtlinge aufzunehmen. Auf die Frage, welche Motivation sie während dieser Zeit hätten, Ost-Deutsche aufzunehmen, antworteten sie bescheiden, es sei eine natürliche, menschliche Eigenschaft zu helfen. Dieses Zeitzeugengespräch hat mich persönlich sehr ergriffen. Es besteht ein erheblicher Unterschied darin, ob man Zeitzeugengespräche liest, oder tatsächlich mit ihnen spricht. Natürlich hätte ich ohne die Übersetzerin kein Wort verstanden, was die drei Zeitzeugen erzählt haben, trotzdem bekommt man durch deren Mimik, durch das Zögern oder Lächeln vor einer Antwort ein sehr gutes Gefühl, in welcher emotionalen Lage sich die Zeitzeugen befinden.
