Weekend

Last weekend I decided to go to the beach. Yeah that’s a lie – it’s only a coast. My roommate Benny and myself got up at first (about 11 o’clock) and went to Botanic Train Station and drove to Jordanstown in the near of my workplace at Newtownabbey.

These Saturday the weather was quite good because as it was not raining. But the temperature are only about 10 degrees and it’s windy, too. This does not compare to the very sunny Berlin.  But we have enjoyed the rays of sun which comes out briefly.

In the near of the coast is also a campsite. There I found some funny basic information for the car park. The translator was not the best.

IT-Work

26.04. was my realy first day at work. At the previous day I only get some information about the company. So I went to the bus in the morning and fortunately this is the final stop – So I have allways a good seat. Because the streets are very crowded the bus needs about a half hour to get to the university.
Jannik and me have our own computer at work. It is located in a room of other computers for students. The PC isn’t the latest. For IT-Experts: it is a Intel Pentium P4. But they is also Windows 7 installed and they worked very stable. However they is some problem: If the computer must work with more power, e.g. for Google Maps, the fan spins so loud like a helicopter starts. In a silent enviroment where students work it isn’t pleasant.
Damion the IT-Specialist gave us some more informarmation about the project Sensors and Connected Health. Unfortunately he hasn’t a Laptop to  establish a connection to the medical device from Intelesens. So we did something else.

At Work

Yesterday was my first day at work. Kevin Shine, Jannik (another student) and me want to meet us at RSM Tenon at 9:30 so that we can drive together to work. But Kevin told me at RSM that the manager from NIBEC had postponed the meeting to 12:30. So I went home and came back later. At 11:30 I met Kevin and Jannik again and we went to the bus station. With the bus we have been travelling over the motorway to the University at Ulster at Jordanstown Campus within 11 minutes – by the way this is a distance of 10 kilometers.

At NIBEC we had a meeting with the director of the Engineering Research Institute Professor James McLaughlin BSc, DPhil., CPhys., FInstP., OBE (or short Jim). Unfortunately he was in a meeting so we waited about one hour. But then he told us about some projects with MiFi and medical monitoring sensors.

After this little introduction Kevin, Jannik and me drove with the taxi back to RSM Tenon. We are not sure what we can expect to this job, because Jim told us only some projects but not exactly our work. So I’m really excited what to expect.

First Day

Hi there,

this is my first blog entry. I’m landed at Dublin Airport in the evening of Sunday. The flight with the Irish low-cost airline was quiet good and we haven’t any delay. My friend Benjamin and me have the luck, that we can go into the airpline like the we have booked the priority boarding. In the airplaine were a lot of Irish people singing, maybe british, songs.

Dublin Airport in the evening

At Dublin Airport we waited for the bus which drove us to the Europa Center in Belfast. The contact person here in Belfast ordered a few taxis which drove us to our apartment. On the whole this accommodation is very good and a the furniture is at a high level. I will talk about that later at a future time.

Yesterday we had a meeting with Kevin Shine (responsible for the jobs in Belfast) who give us a lot of information about Belfast. I also get the information that I have a meeting with Kevin and Jannik at Wednesday. We will drive together to NIBEC at the University of Ulster in Jordanstown.

So, I have quiet a lot to write about my experiences here in North Ireland. Stay tuned!
