Last day at work

Today was my last day at work. It was a rather relaxed day since I already finished my work the only thing I did was giving Johnny a brief overview on how he can run my Perl scripts.
We also talked a bit about how we would actually get it to work with an BMS only to realise that this could be a lot of work but it should be possible to do.
I also gave Lawrence my details in case they need help with my perl scripts. Around lunch Rosie brought in some sweets as a last gift to say goodbye and they even gave me a little card.
They even used german it might not be proper german but hey that’s what makes it even more special

A short summary

To all of you reading this in preparation for their trip here to Belfast: You are going to have a great time here if you prepare yourself with some money in the pocket, a good book to read when the rain is forcing you to stay home and are open to meet new people and willing to chat to strangers you never met before. Most of the time people here are incredibly nice and you will have a lot of fun if you accept their way of living here and dont start questioning everything they do as they are part of one unique country which is certainly very different to other countries in Europe.

Of course the first time settling down will be a little weird but after a couple of days you will start to realize how to handle strangers on the street who often start randomly talking to you. Thats because they somehow see that you are not from Belfast and are interested in how and why you came here. A suggestion: do start telling your story and you will always either get an interesting story of their life back or even make a new friend which will make your time here in Belfast even better.

Cleaning up our apartment

In the afternoon we spent most of the time yesterday cleaning up every inch of the apartment which at the start was very frustrating but then we turned on some music and it started to be a little more entertaining especially if everyone is doing it at the same time and no one has to feel like the cleaning lady of the house. We received a check list from intern europe which is also useful to make sure nothing is forgotten but one point made me think about people in the past living in our apartments: „Throw away every poster on the walls“. Who is stupid enough to bring or buy posters and hang them on the walls? Seems like they had bad experiences in the past but this time I suppose they got lucky as our apartment is in a perfect shape and we feel no guilt about leaving the apartment to the next visitors arriving next week.

Last week @ SpeechStorm

My last week here at SpeechStorm started as the week before ended: testing, testing and MORE testing! Everyone is really working hard to get everything up and running so we can maintain our release date for the upcoming patch. Somehow I already feel sad to leave this company as I am entering a phase where my productive work is already a part of the plan and I think I could contribute a lot more in the future. So I am working my ass off to help as much as I can in my last couple of days in Belfast.

Advice Nr.4

Hey everyone,

only two days left. So I will use the last hours to give you another advice.
The most important thing for a journey is your suitcase. If you forget some necessary items, you could get into trouble. Therefore I made a list with some items you should take with you or that could be useful. Before you start your journey you should create your own list. 😉

Compile a list!

– Information sheets from the OSZ IMT (Agreement)
– Laptop
– Mobile phone
– USB flash drive
– Email accounts and passwords (you should know them) 😉
– Important telephone numbers and email addresses
– Camera with enough memory
– External hard drive
– ID card
– Credit card
– Driver license (If you want to rent a car)
– Webcam
– Health insurance card
– Addresses from your family and friends
– A bit hardcash (banknotes and coins for the bus)
– Rainjacket
– Waterproof shoes
– Umbrella
– Shirt and tie
– Belt
– cosmetics
– Charger for your electronic devices
– Socket adapter
– German power strip (you will only need one socket adapter)
– Do not forget your clothes 😉

With these items you cannot do anything wrong.
Have a nice trip!

Yours George

My workplace

Hi there!

Actually I have to thank Toni for that brilliant idea, because I was wondering earlier about what else I can write, until I saw his post. So I quickly took some photos during the lunch break. What you can see is my current workplace at the apps team, where I use their laptop(the right one) to work at the site and mine for research, testing with JSFiddle and exchanging informations with my colleages. The lower picture shows the office as a whole. As you can see in the background of the picture, the lights in the back section of the office are turned off, that’s because of our power saving policy. The lights will turn off partially if there is no motion in that section of the office. When you sit too calmly on your chair, that even can happen when you still sit in that part of the office. 😀

finishing my project

Well as nearly everyone told you already this is our last week here in Belfast.
So I spent most of the week with working on my perl script.
I finished it Yesterday afternoon. I spent this morning with finishing my Europass and checking if all of the paperwork is done. In the Afternoon I gave Johnny a brief overview how my Script works and what he has to adjust for each Network.
I also gave them my contact details in case they need help with my script.

Last week of work

Hello everyone!

Yes now it is finally coming to an end. This is our last week Max, Tim and I have to work at Concentrix together with Peter. I enjoined working here a lot because all the people are so nice to us like Peter or Chris from the reception. Our jobs were simple and we did them well and now it is all ogre. We promised Peter that when he comes to Berlin(again) that we go and visit some bars and clubs with him and have a drink. Next week we will all go back to our work placements in germany.

dinner with celtrino

Yesterday our office went to show cooking in the city center. After we finished work at 17:30 we all went to a place that does wedding party’s and show cooking. It’s like a open hall with a big open kitchen in one of the corners and huge round tables. So first watched him preparing and cooking the four-course meal and then we ate it. Obliviously the second part was the better one. The quality of the food was astonishing. I took photos of the dishes but forgot to do one on the first dish. It was mushrooms on toast and a mushroom soup.

my work space

It’s a bit late for me uploading some pictures of my work space but I didn’t through about that before. The office is in the highest floor of a building on the Parnell street. The entrance is on a parking lot that is used for us and the other company’s around here. The building and the overall look in that area is not that nice. It looks really old and unkempt but the office itself is really nice and looks neat. I don’t have a picture from the hole office because its completely open and I don’t want to annoy anyone.
