Further Adventures in Wroclaw

The week in Wroclaw has flown by, and I can hardly believe how many exciting experiences we’ve already had.

Wednesday brought us to an IT school, where we gained a glimpse into their working methods. They emphasize practical work extensively, and I must say, their chairs were surprisingly comfortable, and class sizes noticeably smaller compared to our school.

Afterwards, Georgi (our english teacher) took us on a stroll through the city. We savored the fresh air and aesthetic surroundings before settling by the riverside to discuss Tuckman’s theory on team building. It was fascinating to hear different perspectives and witness how this theory is put into practice.

The next day, we visited the zoo. While we didn’t see as many animals as we’d hoped, it was still a pleasant outing and a welcome change of pace.

The highlight of the week was undoubtedly our visit to the John Weston Group on Friday. The CEO proudly showcased his company, and it was impressive to learn about the achievements of such a „small“ enterprise. Discovering their collaborations with major companies like Google and Pepsi was truly eye-opening, demonstrating that even seemingly small companies can achieve great things.

The week concluded with a bang: a session of laser tag followed by a fun-filled bar-hopping tour. It was a night of unforgettable laughter and camaraderie.

Wroclaw has truly captivated and surprised us thus far, and I look forward to what the coming days have in store. Stay tuned for more updates from our Polish adventure! <3

A Good Start for the Week

Our first full day in Wrocław, Monday, marked the official start of our language adventure. We gathered at 10:00 AM, ready to dive into the world of English language learning. Our coordinator had arranged for us to receive public transport tickets.

The day’s journey led us to the Semper Avanti office, where an array of interactive activities awaited us. We met our Teacher George, who is very kind and funny. The atmosphere was buzzing with nervous energy as we embarked on our first challenge: get-to-know-each-other games. Among these, „Getting-to-Know Bingo“ and mutual interviews stood out, not just as icebreakers, but as our first real test of conversational English. These games were not only fun but also incredibly effective in fostering a sense of community among us.

After the morning’s activities, it was time to shift our focus to more structured learning. We tackled a series of worksheets that gradually increased in difficulty, challenging us to apply what we had learned in a more formal context. The day culminated in a test that, despite the initial groans, turned out to be a valuable opportunity to assess our understanding and areas for improvement.

With our first session behind us, we were dismissed for the day. The evening was spent wandering through Wrocław’s Old Town. The sights and sounds of the city were a great experience, it was very beautiful!

Arrival

Last Sunday, we met at Südkreuz to take the Flixbus together to Wrocław. Upon our arrival in the city, I noticed how clean and colorful everything is here compared to Berlin.

Our accommodation, the Basecamp, provided us with single rooms with modern facilities and a great location. Unfortunately, it rained during the first two days, but we made the best of it and enjoyed ourselves in the leisure rooms of the accommodation.

Our main reason for traveling to Poland was a language course. So far, we have mainly focused on icebreaker games, such as Bingo. Today, we delved into Phrasal Verbs and then played a City Game where we searched for gnomes in the marketplace and had to answer questions about their stories.

I have to admit that I’m really enjoying the trip so far, and I’m excited to see what else awaits us. It’s interesting to get to know Polish culture and language in this way, and I look forward to more experiences in the days to come.

See you soon with new updates from Wrocław!
