Last day at work

Finally, the last day at work is done. I just managed to get the paperwork signed and made some more tests with my testing environment. Unfortunately, we couldn’t manage to set up the SCCM in the live system (NIPACS). Today, we went out for lunch and had a last talk about my time at Steria. Afterwards, I got the rest of this day off.

Go karting

Yesterday, I went with Matt, Barry and some other guys to a indoor go-kart track. Matt organized this event some days ago and said, that they are doing this once a year. So I was in luck to be here during this event. It’s just the same procedure as in Germany..You have to watch a film, telling you what to do an what not to do, afterwards, a guy tells you the whole story again and finally you get your helmet and your gloves. Unfortunately I only made the second last position but nontheless, I had a lot of fun. A power assisted steering would have been great, that kart felt like a tank on the track. After the race, we got our racing analysis and got rid of the helmets and gloves.

Euro 2012

After finishing things at work, I hurried up to get home and watch the football match. England and France competed and the match ended with a result of 1:1. I definetly supported England, due to my English roots. It was a really great match, both teams gave their best and and it was exciting from the first to the last minute. Unfortunately, I could give the match just half of my attention, because I cooked the dinner, pasta bake.

To be honest, usually I don’t watch football, but in some cases, e.g. European Championshiop or World Championshiop I make an exception.

My Weekend

After two exciting days at Enniskillen, I tried to relax at the weekend. I spend a lot of time spleeping and just hanging around. Saturday,we had lunch at „The Morning Star“, which is a pub offering lunch. Oli, Tim and Tobias had the „Morning Star Burger“, I tried the „Chicken Burger“. It was a nice location, altough there were many people so it was quite loud. Afterwards I watched some football with Oli.

Sunday wasn’t more interesting. Oli cooked some lasagne for us and in the evening, we were at „The Belfast Empire“ again, to listen to Ken Haddock’s for the last time.

It’s also quite calm on work, I’m doing last paperwork so everything is ready for leaving.

Skillen@Enniskillen

On Thursday and Friday I spend my working hours at Enniskillen with Matt. We had to set up some diagnostic workstations in a new hospital, which is not opened yet, the South West Acute Hospital. There is an old hospital in Enniskillen but this is really obsolete. We had to get some of the workstations which were used in the old hospital to bring them to the new hospital. We couldn’t take all of the workstations we planned to take with us because some doctors said that they would still use them so we had to take some more on Friday.

The new hospital is really huge and looks more like a hotel than a hospital. There was a security guy at the entrance who said that we aren’t allowed to enter the building without a access permission. Of course, Matt did not have a access permission and our contact person did not answer his phone, so we had to wait approximately 15 min, although we lost lots of time in the old hospital. After passing the security guy we could bring the PCs and screens upstairs and start wirering and configuring.

On Friday we had to return to the SWAH to install some more PCs and screens and to fininsh configuring.

The second last Week

The second last week started today. Due to two bank holidays, this week started on Wednesday. At the weekend we spend some time on watching Star Trek on TV, watching Avangers Ensembel in cinema and on eating. So this weekend wasn’t exciting at all. We were kind of tired so we decided to relax and save some energy for the rest of the week. Moreover it’s raining all day long, so we had no attraction to leave the apartment.

I hoped, that SCCM would have finished installing some updates on my servers, but it hasn’t. Matt is not in the office, so I had some time so write my report about my working experience here in Belfast. I’m really looking forward to get back home next week..

Playing the Guitar

Today seems to be a really good day. After I had to exchange some broken hard drives with Stephen in a hospital on Monday, we passed a music store (Matchetts Music). I told Stephen that I already tried to hire a guitar, because I would really like to play the guitar sometimes. I even thought about buying one but I would have trouble getting it home so I did not.

So after telling Stephen this little story he just said: „I have a guitar, I can lend you mine“. I wast just so happy to hear that and today, he brought the guitar. So I’m really looking forward to have the next four days off and to spend some time on playing the guitar.

Nerdy evenings

Last weekend, Oli, Tim, Tobias and I decided to watch a 13 year old film..Matrix. After all this years, this film is still just amazing. I’ve already seen it many years ago but I forgot many things so it was a good thing, watching this film again. I think I annoyed the others because I could not wait and asked them 20 questions during the first 5 minutes. But they told me that all my questions would be answered by the film and they were right. Yesterday we watched the second film, Matrix Reloaded and today we will watch the last one, Matrix Revolutions. So we experienced a decade of Sci-Fi history in a few days.

Still doing the same

Unfortunately I’m still spending time on configuring Windows System Center Configuration Manager 2007 (SCCM). This piece of software just seems to be so slow! It feels like it takes ages for the software to recognize any changes I configure. The second problem is that Matt has just little time to help me, because there are just so many other things he has to do. So I also spend a lot of time on waiting. The next step will be to configure this SCCM environment in the NIPACS domain.

There is a song, its title sounds in this situation so frustrating and true at once..Maybe Tomorrow..

Friday Night

Friday night, we had the idea to check out Robinsons Bars, because I figured out, that there should have been a band playing Irish folk music, but after 10 minutes, we decided to leave this pub, because people were kind of strange and there was a strange atmosphere. The weater was fine so we decided to take the chance and get some sun at Filthy McNasty’s. Unfortunately there was no live music but nevertheless it was a nice evening.
