A flight on a jet stream

I’m back at home and I’m also very suprised that our flight was shorter than I expected but why? When I arrived at Schönefeld my father told me that we where over the Netherlands in around 12km height. We nearly reached the 1000km/h because of a jet stream. Flying on a jet stream gives the plain an enormous boost which is nearly like when you swim with the water stream. And now imagine the plain would have 1062km/h. That’s a sonic boom.

It’s nice to be home but I miss Ireland a bit. I think I’ll make holiday there when I’m done with my aprenticeship. A really beautiful land with lots of helpful and nice people.

My last advice for all is: Get a lagguage scale befor you fly home else it will be chaos at the airport or in the apartements.

Pack the bag…

It’s the last day in Dublin and we were pretty busy with packing all stuff together into our suitcase. Good that I bought a lagguage scale a few weeks ago because the guys in Dublin didn’t had any so they borrowed the one from Josephine and me. I hope I won’t forget anything. Our dinner today was made totally easy. I made a Quesadilla, not typical irish but tasty and it’s made in less than 15 minutes.

Last day at IMEC

Today was my last day at IMEC. Vincent had some problems with his laptop again which made me laugh. I repaired a Psion Teklogix 7535 which had a broken scanner engine. All in all I had a lot of fun with the colleagues. There was so many things to do that I was really busy in some days. All people in there were really cool and relaxed. The way to the company took me about 1,25 hours with the Luas and the Dublin Bus. Too bad that Jason is in his holiday at the moment else we would had gone into a pub for lunch this day.

Ireland vs. Croatia – 1:3

The game started really bad for Ireland. In the 3rd minute  Croatia already it’s first goal. What followed was a fishy game by the Croatien players but then in the 19th minute St. Ledger made a nice head goal. Befor the end of the first half Croatia made another goal. During the half time break I was thinking about some Irish people and what they said about they football players.

Every Irish person says that they have a bad football team.

Maybe that’s the reason why I like Irish Rugby more than football. In the end Ireland lost the game with a 1:3 against Croatia. Let’s see how they handle the next game on Thursday.

A goal for Germany

It was a exciting game between Portugal and Germany. Germany played very well but they really had to be careful. C. Ronaldo always wanted to make his shot. Once it was very very close when the ball kissed the line of german goal. A few yellow cards but also some fair acts by our enemies made the game pretty nice. When Gomez made a goal for Germany in the 72nd minute I was some kind of happy.

Just to notice that I normally don’t like football. Irish Rugby is much cooler as I noticed a few weeks ago. That are real men with muscles. They really have no fear and aren’t such actors as football players.

Bank holiday in Dublin

Today Josephine and myself went to the Grafton Street but sadly we didn’t know that there was a women marathon today. The street was totally full of people. When we saw a wall of people we stopped and searched for a way around the crowd. By the way there was a shop which sold ice cream. After a while we found a gift shop. Josephine bought some postcards. I don’t wanted to buy something there because I wanted to go to Carroll’s. The biggest souvenier shop in Dublin. All in all I noticed that not every shop is closed on a bank holiday.

Cliffs of Moher & City Racing

Yesterday we made a day tour to Limerick and the Cliffs of Moher. The day befor I ordered a taxi for 7 people for the next morning at 6:15 so we had to be infront of our apartments. We shared the taxi price so everyone had to pay only 2 Euro. We got a little bus and the bus driver called Bud started at around 6:55. At around 10 o’clock we arrived at Limerick to have a little walk around the castle. When we arrived the Cliffs at around 12:15 we got some warnings from the driver because there were already a few people who fell from the cliffs. It was very rainy so I decided to make pictures at fast as possible to go inside. The weather didn’t changed so I went through the atlantic gallery which was very interesting. After the visit at the cliffs we had lunch in a little village. I ate baked salmon fillet which was very tasty. We also saw the coast of Galway which was also very rainy. At around 19:00 we were back in Dublin.

Today we went into the city to buy some toast as we noticed that there is the Bavaria City Racing in Dublin city. It was awesome. The sound, the smell of the burned fuel and the cars and bikes were pretty cool. Pictures will follow. Too bad I can’t upload the 3D videos from my Nintendo 3DS.

2 not working IBM Thinkpads = 1 working one

Today I got a special task. Jason told me to remove the mainboard from a IBM Thinkpad R40 and put it into another one. So I had 2 laptops one with a not working display and one bigger laptop with a not working mainboad. The easier way when they would be the same is to exchange the display but that wasn’t the case. Here we go I thought and so I started to take apart the smaller laptop with the not working screen. After a while I decided to search for the service manual to be a bit faster and yes I was faster then. I took the motherboad out of the unit and started with the 2nd laptop.  This time without the manual. After nearly 10 minutes I got the motherboard from that laptop. I compared both motherboards and noticed that the one from the bigger laptop has a longer wifi-card slot as the one from the smaller laptop. So I exchanged the wifi-card slot from the motherboards. Afterwards I put all together and checked if the „new“ laptop is working. It got power, it booted, it started windows and here is a working IBM Thinkpad R40.

Short story: the supermarket

I went to Mark & Spencer’s to buy my lunch. In the supermarket I was thinking of buying some more stuff for the evening so I keept my eyes open. Suddenly an old lady stopped me and asked for help. She told me that she got a message on her mobile phone from someone and don’t know how to open it. She was kind of excited because she thought that someone from her family wrote her. When I opened the message I noticed that it is just junkmail from O2 so I told her to delete them. When she saw that there were more messages she asked me if these aren’t from her family. I opened the next one and again junkmail. So I asked her if it’s a new mobile phone and she told me that she just bought it. Afterwards I explained her that it is normal for new phones. In the end she was really happy that someone helped her.

Party + fire alarm = restless night

Today in the morning … at 1 a.m. … some guys and girls started a party on the 1st floor with extremly loud techno and dance music. When I look out of my bedrooms window I see the balcony where they were dancing and screaming. I tried to sleep but I couldn’t so I decided to use my Ohropax but as I put them in my ears I noticed that I was still able to hear that sound. So I was hoping that they would be done with the party soon. That was around 4 a.m. and the party was still going on. So I thought of going into the livingroom to get my sleep there. As I entered the room I turned back to my bedroom because it wouldn’t had made much sense. Everywhere was loud music to hear. At around 5:30 a.m. I suddenly fall asleep but only for 30 minutes. And the music was going on and on. After I took a shower at 8:30 a.m. (music was still playing) I wanted to take my breakfast but …

Suddenly there appeared a really nasty sound. I was like: „What the hell?!“ When I left the house I noticed that it was the fire alarm which made that noise. The guy in the reception wasn’t there so after a while someone decided to call the fire department and ask for a solution because there were no smoke to see and no smell of burned stuff. A few minutes later someone managed to silent the alarm. And guess what … the music was still playing!

After my breakfast I went to Dun Laoghaire with my parents. It was a pretty day and I also got sun burned. When I came back at 17:20 to the apartments the music was still playing. But hey, they turned the music off at 17:30. Now it’s time for a long sleep.
