My parents @ Dublin

Today was a nice day. In the morning I went to the Burlington Hotel to meet my parents. I was really happy to see them after that long time. But my attention was somewhere else at that moment as I saw that awesome vehicle.

Pink Hummer Limo

I asked my father if he rent that limo but he sadly said no. Anyway we walked across the St. Stephen’s Green Park then through the Grafton Street and after across the O’Connel Bridge to the Spire. I decided to make a Dublin tour with my parents so we bought 3 tickets at the Hop On – Hop Off bus (Red Line). First time we hopped off was at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. We payed 5.50 Euro per person to get in. The Price is ok in my opinion. Sadly a lot of my pictures are worst nothing because of that stupid light inside of the cathedral. Our next stop was the Guinness Storehouse. I was already in there but I noticed that there are many more people at the weekend. In the afternoon we bought some T-Shirt for me at Mark & Spencers.

Tomorrow will be a nice day too.

Sunny Dublin

On Monday I meet Mrs. Neumann and Mr. Bavar in the Knighgtsbridge Bar at the Airlington Hotel. We talked a bit about the City and my job in Dublin and of cause about the weather which is not typical Irish. The days were full of sunshine and a bit too warm in my opinion. I didn’t know that you can put the weather from Germany into your pockets. That’s awesome. The cool thing I noticed is that there are less thunderstorms in Ireland than in Germany. Anyway, at Wednesday Mrs. Neumann and Mr. Bavar wanted to take a look in my apartment. Mrs. Neumann was kind of suprised how modern my apartment is. Wooden floor, huge living room and a modern kitchen that’s what I have here. Mr. Bavar also made a refrigerator check to see what we eat all day. Good that he didn’t saw the freezer. 😉

Good that we have a freezer so I can by some icecream for the next few days. I often visit Met Érieann to look how the weather will be in the next days. More sunshine, yeah! Time to go to a beach again.

Cold finger

Yesterday a few friends and myself went to the National Musuem of Ireland – Archaeology. The admission was free so it was more fun for us to view the jewelry and the old weapons of the vikings. It was pretty warm in the museum and I lost my little group when I went into another wing of the museum. Good to have a mobile phone. All in all a very impressive exhibition.

Outside it was very cold and windy. In the evening I noticed that I might got a little cold. Today I definitly know that it is a cold. Let’s see if I’m fit enough to work tomorrow. Staying the whole day at the apartment is quite boring as I noticed today. I drunk red tea nearly the whole day and my cold won’t get better. Hopefully next week’s weather is getting better.

When the DART goes out of order

Today after work I went to the DART station in Dun Laoghaire and passed a guy who reminds me of an actor. First I didn’t remembered the name of that actor but then it got into my mind. That guy looks like Ben Affleck! I wanted to double check that but I didn’t had my glasses on and I was already too far away from him.

After a while the DART arrived at the station and I took a seat at the window. I was a bit confused because the train didn’t moved for like 7 or 8 minutes. Then the DART moved and I felt a bit better. When the train arrived at Salthill & Monkstown a voice came out of the speakers. I just understood that the DART is out of order because of broken overhead connections and that we had to take the Dublin Bus to get into the city. So I followed the crowd to the neared Dublin Bus station. After a few minutes a taxi stopped infront of me and the driver asked for more people who would like to get to city center. When I asked him for the fee he told me that it will be splitted under the passengers and it wouldn’t be more than 5Euro. So I hopped into the taxi. After a few minutes I catched the info that over hundrets of people are ordering a taxi at that time just because the DART isn’t moving. When we arrived at the city center the driver told us that he will only charge 3Euro each person. I was like: Cool, perfect time to get rid of my change.

All in all a very exciting afternoon.

Another great movie

Today is the release of „The Dictator“ which I watched after work. I also bought some nachos with cheese dip for the show today. Sadly the dip was extremly sour so it wasn’t fun to eat it. Therefor the movie was pure fun. It started with the birth of the dictator and a fast review of his life which was totally funny to view. The best gag in this movie is when Aladeen, the dictator, sits with his old weapon engineer and 2 american people in a helicopter. First Aladeen overacts as pure fan of america and then those 2 talkin in there native language. You really have to see it because it will make you laugh from the beginning to the end. It’s good to understand and the outtakes at the end nearly top the whole movie.

So my advice for you: Watch it!

Great jokes and you may find Osama Bin Laden.

I got sand in my shoes

Yesterday I and 4 people from the FSZ03 were on the way to Malahide because we wanted to see the Castle. As we arrived at the bus station in Lower Abbey Street we noticed that we missed our bus by 1 minute and the next to Malahide would come in 30 minutes so we decided to take the bus to Portmarnock. When we arrived there we saw that awesome long beach called Velvet Strand.

Velvet Strand

In the first moment we thought that we were in Miami because of all the palm around the mainsons. We went into the water ofcause without shoes and socks. Too bad that we had to take care of our stuff so we went back to the higher places. After we put on our shoes and socks we went to Malahide. That was just a 4km walk. Later we ate in an typical Irish Pub called „Gibney’s Pub“. Very delicous food and a pretty ambience. Later we went to the Castle but too bad it was closed so we decided to go back to Dublin.

Entertainment time

I was very excited the whole week because of the new Tim Burton film „Dark Shadows“. When I saw the first advert I was like: „I have to see it on 11th May!“

So I went straight to the CineWorld in Dublin today. I thought I wouldn’t manage it in time to the show at 17:40 but I did it. I bought my ticket at 17:30 and went straight to screen 11. The movie is awesome and Johnny Depp played his role very well. There are some nice scenes in it where I had to grin a bit. I wont tell any details but all in all it is a Must-See-Movie for all Johnny Depp and Tim Burton fans. Too bad that it was a bit short in my opinion.

CineWorld Ticket - Dark Shadows

Maybe I’ll watch another film tomorrow and next week on 16th May I’ll watch „The Dictator“.

The work at IMEC

A dizzy day in Dublin today and I was not able to see any ship this morning and evening.

But therefor I repaired and flashed a lot devices. I replaced displays, bluetooth-adapter and flashed some of the devices I repaired the last days. I also flashed Cisco Wireless Access Points. Of cause I tested all units. All working fine, what else? Vincent also told me that I should work there because Jason an myself are a great team. After I was done with all my stuff Jason gave me a huge device to repair. I don’t know how many kilo it has but I guess around 15kg. He told me to replace the display. It wasn’t that easy but I managed to repair it in less than 45 minutes. And it works!

I’ll post a picture on weekend of that monster.

K.O. after cleaning

Hi there,

yesterday we sleept a bit longer because of the day tour the day befor. After I woke up I wanted to make some breakfast but my appetite was gone after I saw the kitchen. So we had to clean our kitchen because that french girl really dont know how to make something clean. I was a little shocked after I saw that she placed a pot with something burned in into the dishwasher. Also the hob was totally dirty so I had clean it. I didn’t watched into the microwave. After the kitchen was done we cleaned our bathroom as well. Normally there would be a cleaning service for our apartments but we never saw one here. We already talked to Margaret about that issue and she spoke to the reception about it on the same day. Yesterday I also wrote an email to Margaret about the missing cleaning service and about some other issues like broken beds and so on. During that chaos of cleaning and collecting issues about the apartment I totally forgot to write my blog entry. So I’m really sorry for letting you wait.

Have a nice bank holiday.

Greetings
Daniela

Saturday Day Tour

On Thursday Margaret, our cantact person in Dublin, asked us if we wanted to make a day tour to Glendalough, Wicklow and Kilkenny. So I wrote a mail to all and collected all OKs. A day after Margaret booked the tour for us.

Today in the morning we started short after 8 o’clock and headed to Nassau Street to the bus stop. There were already some people at the sign for our tour. After a few minutes 2 busses arrived at the bus stop and the coordinator told us that our group will take the 2nd bus. The guide of our bus told us some nice things about Dublin and the county around Dublin. We were on the way to Wicklow and the awesome landscape of Glendalough. It is totally different to the rest of Ireland.

Glendalough

Totally breathtaking.

The next destination of our tour was Kilkenny with it’s also awesome castle. I didn’t went in but the view around the castle was also nice. A huge park is behind the castle were you can relax. Sadly I didn’t managed to go to the cathedral because we were a bit in a hurry.

Kilkenny Castle

But one thing in Kilkenny totally made my day. There is a little shop at the river. I didn’t went in but I still wonder what I could buy there.

Kilkenny Shop Sign

At around 18:00 we arrived in Dublin and went back to our apartements.
