What to do after work?

Good evening,

as you can see I got a little question in my title.

So, what I do after work?

First of all I always go to the train station to take the DART or the Commuter back to Dublin. I kinda love my way to and from work because I always see the sea and sometimes those huge Stena Line ferries.

Today I went shopping with Josephine. No clothes by the way, just food. So we went to Tesco because it’s pretty cheap in there. I guess we managed to stay in Tesco for around 50 minutes. During that time we noticed that someone call out the daily clearance for each part of the store. When we were done in Tesco we noticed that it was already 19 o’clock. So we wanted to go out of the shopping mall to get the next Luas to our appartement but we got stopped by two security guys. They asked us if we wanted to go to the cars and we said „no“. They told us that there is only one exit left where we can leave the shopping mall. So they pointed on the north side of the shopping mall and we were like „f***, the Luas is on the south side“. So with full bags we walked the whole way from north to south of the building and in that time we missed 2 or 3 Luas trams.

After all we made us a nice dinner.

First week done

Hello there,

first we (Josephine and myself) wanted to visit the sunday market at Dun Laoghaire (spelled like „Dunn Lierii“) but the weather wasn’t that nice to go out. Dun Laoghaire is a very nice area to go out. Good for myself that I work there. It’s kinda like Howth but there are more things to visit like the Bloomefield Centre, a huge shopping center with an also huge Tesco inside. There is also a nice shopping street near that center, the Lower George Street. When I’m at work I often visit that street to buy my lunch.

The work at IMEC Technologies makes a lot of fun. At the moment I repair handhelds from Motorola and nice portable barcode- and labelprinters. Jason White is my contact person there and he told me that he already had 3 german students there. I also noticed that he called me a „pro“ which means profi while he was at his phone and talked to someone else. He is a very nice person and when I had a question he explained me what to do and how to do it.

Vincent (I hope I spelled his name correctly) who also works at IMEC Technologies is also a nice guy and I already had much fun with him. I guess he tries to learn a bit german because he often wants me to translate some things into german. In my opinion is that a good training for myself to make my English more perfect.

That was the first week at Dublin and I hope that the weather gets better.

A walk around Howth

Hi there,

today I were at Howth with Josephine because there is a Prawn Festival at the whole weekend. We had a pretty nice day with full of sunshine and a fresh breeze at the beach. The walk around the habour was very cool. There were so cute seals between the ships (see picture below).

Seals - how cute...
There was also a nice view point where you can view over the whole habour. As you can see I’ll share this nice view.

I may make a gallery with all pictures inside and in higher resolutions.
Let’s see what comes tomorrow.

The first day at Dublin

Hello everyone,

here is a little introduction into my current living situation. First of all I have to notice that I share the apartement with another german apprentice, Josephine Irlbeck, and a french girl. I’m really sorry but I already forgot her name because she wasn’t present when we arrived. She came back in the middle of the night with a visitor. And that’s not all! I don’t know for how long that girl lives here but the kitchen was all other than clean. Also the living room was a little hell.

Today we had a meeting with Margaret Purdy, the European Programmes Manager of the Internsplus, in the Guinness Enterprise Centre. We talked about issues we might have with the apartement, our working places and the propabiltiy to get reduced prices on Luas, DART and the DublinBus . After that meeting we had another pretty „meeting“ in the Guinness Storehouse. It was quite interessting, how the irish people love there Guinness. We also had the chance to get a little glas of Guinness, just to get into the taste of that dark beer. And to be honest: It’s not my taste at the moment.

In the evening I bought myself a leapcard. Thats a card to get reduced prices on nearly all public transports. You can charge that card at a store or online with your VISA, but only when u registered your card. I tried it and I’ll tell you soon if it worked or not.

The best thing today was the influence of Margaret, then she managed it that our apartement issues were getting fixed quite fast.
