#24 – finally home

So Germany got me back, finally!

The flight home was nice and without any delay, even though we had to be at the airport quite early. I slept most of the time in the airplane, as I did not have had any sleep in the night before.

Back in Berlin our group scattered quite fast, as everyone got picked up by relatives – My girlfriend was waiting for me. We took the taxi home as that was more convenient and quick. Back home nothing much happened until we went for dinner to an Italian restaurant. I obviously went to bed early and slept 13 hours through.

This was my last entry into this Blog. I hope you had fun reading.

Bye everyone!

#22 – German Paperwork and a farewell

Mymy, German paperwork is something for itself.

How complicated can it get? I need to file up so much stuff that I am loosing track of it. Also I need to make sure Robert Doyle gets his part done as he, of course, cannot know what is necessary.

Still I believe I will manage in a timely manner and I should have everything ready by today. So I got some cake as a farewell present for my colleagues today. They really appreciated that! Guess they are much into cake here, don’t get it too often.

Even if my time here was exceptionally great I am looking forward to get home. Luckily I will have holidays then. I guess I will just be lazy then and do as less as possible.

Will tell you more about my homecoming when i am actually home! That will be my last entry then of course.

#21 – Spam

Hihi!

As the weeks are just flying by and I will soon enough be gone someone else will be responsible for the backups I did so far. Originally it was supposed to be his task anyway, my colleagues just stalled this plan for me. So as of now I am showing him how it is done, as he was so far just responsible for the workshop and hardware repairs.

Other than that I am doing a lot of tickets and phone calls and I am surprisingly fast in solving most issues on my own. If I can’t solve it on my own, my colleagues will always support me, as soon as I give them a note and they will show me how its done.

It is a really nice working environment which I will definitely miss in Germany. I will also miss the customers politeness and friendliness as well as their appreciation for my work.

Well, that’s it for this week! *YAY*

#20 – Sunny Sunday

Hey,

So as the weather was incredible on Sunday we decided to spend the rest of the day at St. Stephens Green Park. On our way there we took our time to listen to the street musicians this time. We resisted the urge to afford one of their CDs even though they played great music. At the park we found a nice sunny place and hung around there. Nothing much to tell about that, other than it was utmost relaxing and a very nice spent day.

On our way home we again listened to the musicians so we took quite long to get there. After Dinner we watched breaking bad, and that’s about all we did on the weekend.

No idea what my next post will be,

just read on and find out!

#19 – Shoppingtour

Hi,

This will be just a short entry as I am running out of topics and I still need a few.

So The weekend was mostly quiet, I saved Eriks ass on Saturday morning, as he almost overslept and resulting that almost missed his tour. Luckily I made the night through (for some reason I did not really get tired) and woke him up at 0530 am. The Saturday itself was quite silent for me. I slept until 1400 pm and went shopping for food afterwards. Just a few ingredients required for dinner. Other than that I was lazy.

For Sunday Erik and I were shopping again for clothes. As Erik got A TON of T-Shirts I almost completed my business outfit equipment with additional trousers, shirts, ties and a jacket. I will probably afford decent shoes in Germany.

Will tell you about the second part of Sunday in the next Blog!

#18 – ICCSC ^^

Hey there,

On a short note I would like to tell you something about a certificate we might do. It is called ICCSC as the headline says, I’ll hide the full name somewhere in the text to force you to read it if you want to know. So as most of us already told you, no walker really cares about the traffic lights. We just pass the street when they are clear, some people who obviously graduated already just cross at any time. They seem to feel stronger than buses I guess. Additionally we sometimes have bus drivers who seem to have been playing too many racing games. There are bumps on our way to work and they just try to jump over them so we get shaken through quite well. The Taxis turn around on a full street whenever they see fit. When any driver approaches a red traffic light they just ignore holding lines. So the traffic is just a mess. And the shopping streets where, no cars are allowed, are a mess as well. Ireland City Center Survival Certificate. They are just overloaded with people any time of the day, while those people don’t seem to be able to walk in a straight line. This forces everyone to circle through the street somehow, what than again will make you take 3x the time you would actually need. They really have no idea how to make any room when its narrow and you try to pass them. When I would not ALWAYS turn my shoulder back I would ALWAYS run them over. Especially the old people are great at requiring more space then they can possibly need. I thought the Berlin people are bad about letting someone off a train or bus, but the Irish people just top this. They make no room AT ALL. And again it’s particularly the old ones being in the way. Still we manage to get to our destinations somehow and by now we manage to pass anyone swiftly.

Actually this is just some blabbering as there is not much to talk about beside work and nice quite evenings.

See ya!

#17 – Celtic tour

Hello everyone,

As said before I’ll tell you a little bit about the Celtic tour we did on Sunday. This tour was very nice even though the weather was not as well. We actually got soaked at one point but later more of that.

So our tour guide was very nice and funny and incredibly well prepared. He started to talk about the sights we were going to see 10 minutes before we arrived there, so we could then have just a look around without having to stand there in a circle and listen to him. Also he was very considerate about the rain and he was very impressed as the complete group did not seem to care about getting wet. He told a few jokes and a bit about the Irish history itself, what was very interesting.

For the sights I actually forgot most of the names but I remember a very impressive tomb where we had to climb up a hill to reach it. It started to rain while we were up there and it got very windy on our way down, which got us very wet at this place. The tomb itself was quite interesting but smaller than I first imagined. But he told us that there have been many of these in ancient times, which would have been a very incredible view.

Also very interesting was the big Castle we visited. A few parts of the walls were missing and we couldn’t have a look in the castle itself (there are tours for that also) but it was nice enough.

Other than that we visited abbeys and graveyards with gigantic Celtic crosses.

All in all it was a tour very much worth it and I recommend everyone to do both tours i now brought to you!

For anyone that wants more detailed information about the Celtic tour here is a link to it:

This time I am keeping the pictures to myself just to annoy everyone :D.

#16 – Cliffs of Moher

Hihi there,

As you already may know I have been to the famous cliffs of Moher on Saturday. The trip there was quite exhausting as we all had way too less sleep and I was also not able to sleep to well in the bus. Our tour guide was talking a bit strangely as he repeated himself over and over again when he spoke about a certain topic.

Other than that the company that offered the tour was well prepared and had a decent amount of stops on our way to the cliffs and home.

The Cliffs themselves were very impressive and beautiful. We had a hell of a strong wind there. At one point I had to hold onto a fence to make sure I would not be blown away.

We stopped at a pub for lunch which was quite expensive. They are utmost reliant on the tourist tours as they won’t have any other customers whatsoever, which is a strange concept from my point of view.

On our way home we stopped at quite beautiful landscapes (a lot of bright grey rocks just scattered in the fields) just at the cliffs.

I will not provide any pictures here as Erik did that already and it would be a waste of disk space to add them again. He picked the ones I would have picked.

That’s it already from me for now, next blog will cover for the Celtic tour we did on Sunday. Until then!

#15 – Street musicians, Parks and Howths

Hey,

As you may know (if not go and read previous blogs!) we had to spend the extended weekend differently that we previously intended. So instead of driving to the cliff of moher we spend the Sunday looking around Trinity College, the beautiful park I mentioned before, as well as the second visit in Howths, which I also mentioned before. I’d like to go into a bit more detail about this as I just mentioned it in one sentence, as I mentioned before. (HA try to get that paragraph by reading it only once!)

So first I headed to the shopping street right behind the Trinity College just to see if I could find anything tempting. On this way (and later on as well) I noticed the street musicians. They are extremely talented (German street musicians suck compared to these. Yes I did not write „are bad“ because that expression would be too weak). Just to get you definetly confused about what happened at which time, on our way home Erik and I stood by a few musicians and listened to them. I even considered to purchase one of their CDs.

After my not so great „shopping tour“, where I did not afford anything, I met again with the Trinity College group just there. Its a lovely place and I would like to study there. I would spend a lot of time on the campus rather than at home I guess.

On Monday we had our second visit to Howths, this time a bit earlier. While we waited for the „Nick-group“ to arrive we enjoied the low tide and walked a bit on the sand. Erik was complaining about getting wet feet all the time. (HAHA, go buy decent shoes!) As Nick, Felix and Mike arrived we got lunch nearby and headed to the quite highest place reachable.

It was a decent weekend and I feel that I used my time splendidly.

Next entrys will be about the cliffs and the Celtic tour i guess. Until then!

#14 – Smithing plans

Hihi,

As a few of us already wrote, we planned to go to the Cliffs of Moher on the extended weekend and that we were not able to go there. Reason for that is, that we would not get a rental car by any chance, as our drivers are too young. (The websites told us something different). So there we were, on Saturday morning, at the airport with no car and a booked hotel which we could not reach. The car rental service was so nice to let us go free of charge, but the papers of the hotel booking said something else (119€ per room, and we had 3 rooms).

Of course we had to cancel anyway so everyone pushed me forward again „go Stefan, your English is best…“. I always end up on the front line if its something important… Well at least I was able to cancel the booking free of charge, as I explained that we were from Germany and got faulty information from the internet and that we had no chance to get by at all.

We went home and made different plans. We went to some shopping centers and later to trinity college. Also we went to a most beautiful park (which name I forgot). We will go there again some other day. On Monday we had our second visit in Howth.

Also Nicks group found a one day bus tour to the cliffs so we will go for that next weekend.

Will tell you about, i’m excited to go there!

Cheers!
