Finally there are some Pictures. AMAZING!

So Guys,

at least I got the Camera from my colleague. So. Here are the promised pictures! That are not all, but some of them. These are only the pictures I took in Howth. It is 15 Minutes away from Dublin so I went by train to this small location. It was very cold, rainy and foggy but still worth the view! Tomorrow I will post the pictures I took on my Tour about the Celtic culture. And there is one information I will tell you tomorrow… Especially my family will be interested in this. 🙂

First night out…

Hi folks, it’s me again.

Yesterday, we went to a laundrette to have our laundry cleaned. That was necessary because of the bad laundry machines in our apartments.

Later, Alex and I went out to take a look at Dublin at night.

We saw a lot of people on their way to get in a club or a pub so we decided to go to our colleagues Erik and Stefan.

After we arrived, we took a look at their apartment and compared it to our apartment. Their apartment has the advantage that their hot water heater is not in one of the bedrooms so everyone can sleep well.

After the comparison we settled down and had a couple of drinks.

The evening was pretty funny and we talked a lot about Ireland itself and about our working places and what we are doing right now at work.

I am sorry to tell that there are no pictures of our journey because I forgot my camera.

That’s all for today. The next Blog entry will come in a couple of days I think.

See you soon.

End of the second week

Hi guys

the second week ist over. Thursday and friday were very nice workdays.
In my projekt I created my first web service. I programmed this in c#.
It’s very similar to java. The test failed, because I used the
false timestamp. So I did send me 334 mails in 3 minutes to my charite
account. That was very funny.

After the work we cooked and met some colleagues in a pub called
„Buskers“.
Some guys and I went to a club at midnight. At the beginning it wasn’t
so cool, but later we had a lot of fun.
Yesterday Stefan and I went to the harbour, but we choose the wrong
one. It was the industry harbour and we didn’t see the ocean.

After a sunny walk, all our colleagues visit us and we made a little home party.

Today is our cleaningday and the rest of it we’ll chill and enjoy the sunshine at our balcony.

See you later

A walk, a Pub and Nachos…

Hi folks, it’s me again.

Today Steve and I went out into a pub to have a beer and something to eat.
Steve ordered “Bangers & Mash” and I ordered some “Chilli Beef Nachos”.
It was awesome. I never ate such good Nachos.

Before...
... and after.

At work, we are trying to implement Drupal (a Content Management System) into our workflow. This should save us some time because we don’t need to create so much from scratch.

Our plans for the weekend are still the same. We still want to visit the Temple Bar District.

That’s all folks. I think I’ll pass my next entry at the weekend so that I have more time to see and experience something.

See you soon.

Markus

A normaly midweek

Hi guy’s

how’s it goin‘? Nothing! The last two days I have totaly screwed. The work is hard, but interessting.
Today I  created my first web service. It is a little bit complicated, therefore very cool. I don’t know, what I could report.

The trip to our work ist very long and the most time I sleep in the bus. We got used to the friendlyness of the busdriver already.
Even though I havn’t much time after the work, I often go jogging in the park. The park is small, but so beautiful.
At the right side is a little river and in the center of the park are many sportfields (football, hockey, rugby and so on) . A lot of people make sport in the park. I think this is good.
At the weekend we’ll visit the habour and go a little bit shopping.

See you later guys.

What the weather…

Hi folks, it’s me again.

Now we have about one and a half weeks behind us and there is one thing I recognized just today, the changes in the weather.

I don’t know how to explain it, because it is totally weird. When we were visiting the Guinness Storehouse on Monday last week, I figured out that the wind, despite the normal temperatures, could be terrible.
But since today afternoon I know for sure. It is like a hurricane just as I am writing these letters. For me as a smoker that is not allowed to smoke inside it is like a punishment.
It’s like the wind wants to annoy me. Besides that, it is not really possible to walk outside without some protective walls because the wind will play with you and push you around.
If you ignore the wind (if possible) the weather is pretty fine, it’s not too cold or too warm.

At work it is going to become more IT related. I am now responsible (together with a colleague) to write some PHP functions for our reporting software and later I may be able to finally use some of my networking skills when we are testing the system on the streets.

This time there are no pictures that I could come up with. We didn’t go out the last couple of days. Maybe at the weekend, when there is more time to go out. But when we do, we will try to take a look at the Temple Bar District. Maybe we find some interesting spots and/or people.

See you soon.

The first week is over

Dear Reader,

the first week is almost over and everything is kind of normal. You stand up, you’re going to work, you’re coming back, eat something, relax, and going to bed.
On the weekend we made a little bit of sight seeing and going to the pub’s and bar’s with our colleagues.

It is a little bit of a shame that we need to work here in Ireland 😀 We will never see all of the beautiful places in this country
but we will try our best.

My workplace are just awesome. There are one big room for the IT guys with 11 places. 6 of the guys are Spanish, 2 of them are Irish and the 2 others are from Pakistan and Brazil. It is an international and funny atmosphere. Fortunately it is easy to speak fluent english.
Well, that’s it. Im done with this week. See you next week.

Your’s sincerly,

Alexander

The first week has ended…

Hi folks, it’s me again.

Today, my colleagues and I were out for a little sightseeing tour on our own.
We went to the harbour and made a lot of photos. We saw a lot of pubs and some really cool old buildings. We also took some pictures of the River Liffey and some bridges that cross it.

We also went through the St. Stevens Green near our apartment.

I was also able to take a picture of the office I work in.

At work, we are trying to customize a parking machine in that way, that people are able to pay their parking ticket with an SMS without registering somewhere.
I think that this is a pretty cool project and that I will learn a lot about electrical engineering.

On our way home, we found some curiosities. You can see one of them beneath this sentence.

We also had to make some photos of other smaller memorials or bigger statues.

The new working week begins in a way the last ended, with a beer.

After one week.

See you soon.

The first normal days…

Hi folks, it’s me again.

We are now here in Dublin for five days and everybody survived the first days of work.

Sunday was regular weekend. We bought some stuff for the household and something to eat.
But we didn’t go out or something like that. We were just walking around looking for other possibilities to shop and so on.

On Monday we had a short meeting with Margaret Purdy from Internsplus. She gave us additional information about our working places and helped me and my three colleagues to get a bigger apartment on Tuesday. We had some problems with the new apartment but they were solved Wednesday.

I finally got to know my workplace. It’s Gerriko Technologies and the office is right beside Margaret’s office located at the Guinness Enterprise Centre.
Diana (my boss) is very kind and the other colleagues are very friendly too.

The job itself is not that IT (e.g. Personal Computer, Server and so on) related as I thought but there is a lot of electrical engineering involved in the current project which is fun too.

After the meeting with Margaret we were visiting the Guinness Storehouse. It was pretty interesting and we were also able to craft “The Perfect Pint”. We even got a certificate for that.

We also got the possibility to get a free sample of Guinness on our tour.

Here is a small overview of the Guinness Storehouse.

Later that day we were in an O2 Store to buy some Prepaid Cards and after that we went to Supermacs for lunch.

Because of the fact that my work place is not that related to PCs, I am right now learning the basics of electrical engineering and was also able to solder some circuits.

That’s about all for now.

On the Weekend I plan to make some kind of sightseeing inside of Dublin and make a couple of pictures for the Blog and my family at home and in Bavaria.

Here is a first impression of what you (hopefully) can await.

See you soon.

My first few days here in Ireland

Hey Folks,

I am very sorry that you had to wait so long to read me, but my first days here in Ireland were very turbulent, interesting and exciting.

So, let me start with my travel to Ireland. I never flight before and that with a good reason. Even if planes are statistically more secure than Busses, Cars, Trains and Ships, you still have no control about your journey over the fluffy clouds. And let me say: Humans can swim (water/boat), they can walk (land/car/train) but the hell, they aren´t made to fly!

Never the less we arrived in one piece in Ireland. And I think, it was a very interesting experience. But to be honest: I don´t want this experience anymore. It was interesting to be pressed in your seat when you started, to feel, how the pressure changed arount you and to see the biggest citys beneath you. But really, Citys are made to walk in them. Not to see them from above. 😉

This brings me to my next pint, oh, sorry, I meant point. But the pint has a point of course! Our first thing we made in Ireland was to experience the culture from Ireland. That means: We went to a pub. I never drank Guiness (it´s also called a Pint) before, but I have to say that it tastes very good.

Ater that we went to the inner city. I life in a Bed and Breakfast in Rathgar. It is a district of Dublin and the Owner of this BnB is a very nice and gentle older woman. So, Rathgar is a little abroad so we had to take a long way to see the other ones. So we saw the Appartements of one other group and yeah. That´s it. We wanted to meet the third Group (from my Class it´s Stefan Korte and Erik Herzog) buton the way to them there was a person laying on the ground. Bleeding, Crying and barfing. So we had to call the ambulance and help him. We wanted to meet the third Group in an other pub but gentle like we are we waited until the Police arrived and then went to this pub.

Unfortunately it was to late and the third group left the Pub. But we sat there in this wonderful Pub called O´Sheas and listened to the live music. That was very beautiful and both voices from the man and the woman there were magical! After that I and two other guys from my accommodation took a Taxi to go home. Except with the bleeding and nearly dying guy it was a super day!

The next day was a way more quiet. We finally arrived completely in Dublin, bought some things and looked a little bit around the city. I don´t have to say much more about Sunday except the fact that all Supermarkets have open on Sundays too. That was a very nice thing.

I think I will tell you tomorrow or one day after tomorrow something about Monday and the days after. I am very sorry that here are not that much pictures but I promise they will come soon, too.

Now I just want to hang around with the other guys in my BnB and want to chill out.

We read us Folks, keep interested!

Your´s sincerely,

Lars
