Hi guys,
today comes the promised pictures from the room in our apartment, where I sleep, in the university court. I have this room, for the 2 months, with Martin.
I was very excited the whole week because of the new Tim Burton film „Dark Shadows“. When I saw the first advert I was like: „I have to see it on 11th May!“
So I went straight to the CineWorld in Dublin today. I thought I wouldn’t manage it in time to the show at 17:40 but I did it. I bought my ticket at 17:30 and went straight to screen 11. The movie is awesome and Johnny Depp played his role very well. There are some nice scenes in it where I had to grin a bit. I wont tell any details but all in all it is a Must-See-Movie for all Johnny Depp and Tim Burton fans. Too bad that it was a bit short in my opinion.

Maybe I’ll watch another film tomorrow and next week on 16th May I’ll watch „The Dictator“.
At the end of this awesome weekend every one of us took a shower and make oneself comfortable to fade away this bank holiday. While Tim was taking a shower I went to my room to bring something when I suddenly heard a new noise in it, just a click. I followed it and it came from behind the headboard of my bed. I couldn’t see anything, but then it dawned on me so I thought “look at the ceiling” and yes, there was incessantly water dropping from the ceiling! Bingo! Jazzy! I immediately called Laurence, he is the person of response for our apartment and he promised me to fix it. So we will see what will happen.
You probably already read that Tim, Rene, Tobi and I rented a car to drive along the Causeway Coastal Route. One station of our tour was Giant’s Causeway. It was overwhelming to see this stunning landscape and this nice coast. I have never seen such a beautiful place. The only unpleasant thing was these masses of tourists. You couldn’t take a photo without having a tourist crossing your way or sitting on a rock. Whatever, finally the Causeway’s charm atoned it for us.

The whole time we wondered how these rock formations were created. It was fascinating and we decided to take a rest offshore to enjoy the surge and the awesome view. It was also fascinating that this only occurs at this place, whereas a few meters besides there are only normal rocks.

We had a great time there and it was absolutely unforgettable.

After having heard that every new switch is configured manually and that there is no default configuration template, I suggested to use Cisco Smart Install to install and configure switches automatically. Bad idea! Now the shit hit the fan. My new task is to set up a testing environment for Cisco Smart Install. To do this I got a Cisco Catalyst 3750G L3 switch as well as a Cisco Catalyst 2960:

After searching for the documentation and CLI commands I plugged in the 3750G’s power supply and was totally euphoric … and then bitterly disappointed. There is no iOS image on the switch. 🙁 So I have to transfer an image via console cable which takes about 4 hours. It is not easy to stay calm when you want to start your work and recognize that you have to wait for the XMODEM console transfer at approximately 873 bytes per second. 😛 As I am writing this post I am still waiting for the XMODEM transfer to finish, so I think I won’t start configuring Cisco Smart Install today. 🙁
A dizzy day in Dublin today and I was not able to see any ship this morning and evening.
But therefor I repaired and flashed a lot devices. I replaced displays, bluetooth-adapter and flashed some of the devices I repaired the last days. I also flashed Cisco Wireless Access Points. Of cause I tested all units. All working fine, what else? Vincent also told me that I should work there because Jason an myself are a great team. After I was done with all my stuff Jason gave me a huge device to repair. I don’t know how many kilo it has but I guess around 15kg. He told me to replace the display. It wasn’t that easy but I managed to repair it in less than 45 minutes. And it works!
I’ll post a picture on weekend of that monster.
Greetings
Daniela
The project I described earlier, is nearly done. After installing ESXi, I set up 7 virtual machines. Two Windows Vista clients, one Windows 7 client, three Windows Server 2003R2 servers and one Windows Server 2008R2 server. I build a small domain, consisting of one domain controller, a small Windows Server 2003R2 cluster (two nodes), three clients for testing purpose and one 2008R2 server which shall run SQL Server 2005 and Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007R2. Unfortunately I had to interrupt my work, due to a missing DVD.
I heard, that I was scheduled to participate in a big project, which is very actual at Steria. My tasks would have been configuring many servers, configuring SAN controllers, configuring RAIDs and LUNs but unfortunately the customer now wants to use HP hardware instead of IBM hardware, so the project can not start yet and I hope, that it starts within my stay here at all.
As René already wrote, he, Oliver, Tobias and me decided to rent a car to see the north coast of Northern Ireland.

Our first real stop (after a short stop at a little harbor to smell some fresh sea air and take some photos) was at the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge. BTW: The bridge is on facebook! 😉

Because we were literally overwhelmed by the landscape and the view, we decided to take a little rest and enjoy sitting on top of the cliffs and let the softly blowing breeze stroke our heads.

It was just quietly ending of the last week, we have spontaneously decided to go Morning Star and ate some small bite, but this story i have already told. Well, on the morning of the bank holiday, we have decided to watch the film Battleship in the cinema, but this was a very bad film, it was always just a promotion of the NAVY in USA. Of course, i didn’t recommended to watch this film. So, the Tuesday until Wednesday, i got a boost for the next days by the next step of my projects at my work. It was just migrate the content of the old version of Sharepoint to the new one, but there was sometimes many little problems with the incompability of this both versions (2007 & 2010), well my supervisor Kevin decided to give me an PC with XP via Remote, because the WebDAV-Service doesn’t really good support by the new IE version in relation to Windows 7. Yeah, while the process of copy the content to a file-server, i arranged with Kevin about creating more documentation in this company in developing of programmes, Silverlight and network. Therefore, i got the control of the HyperV-Server and setup first infrastructures of linux servers with storage-service and Wiki webserver, because i talk with him about the high-performance with the minimum of device configuration. This was first step to create my own signature in this company and to get more personally contact to Kevin. Well, this was my good startup in this week.

Have a nice week @all…
Nothing very special happend at work … But I can write something about the weekend two weeks ago. Kevin and Roxi had the idea that we can go to the university, where they work. Therefore we went to the Queen’s University and the Belfast Botanic Gardens and Palm House. The flowers there are, say it in British, lovely. There is also a huge palm tree inside the greenhouse. The garden of the University looks picture-perfect and the lawn is very green. I think they nourish and cherish the lawn like no other. But pictures say more than thousands words.
