First week done

Hello there,

first we (Josephine and myself) wanted to visit the sunday market at Dun Laoghaire (spelled like „Dunn Lierii“) but the weather wasn’t that nice to go out. Dun Laoghaire is a very nice area to go out. Good for myself that I work there. It’s kinda like Howth but there are more things to visit like the Bloomefield Centre, a huge shopping center with an also huge Tesco inside. There is also a nice shopping street near that center, the Lower George Street. When I’m at work I often visit that street to buy my lunch.

The work at IMEC Technologies makes a lot of fun. At the moment I repair handhelds from Motorola and nice portable barcode- and labelprinters. Jason White is my contact person there and he told me that he already had 3 german students there. I also noticed that he called me a „pro“ which means profi while he was at his phone and talked to someone else. He is a very nice person and when I had a question he explained me what to do and how to do it.

Vincent (I hope I spelled his name correctly) who also works at IMEC Technologies is also a nice guy and I already had much fun with him. I guess he tries to learn a bit german because he often wants me to translate some things into german. In my opinion is that a good training for myself to make my English more perfect.

That was the first week at Dublin and I hope that the weather gets better.

Greetings
Daniela

My first weekend in Belfast…

Hello guys,

yeah… The first weekend in Belfast will be ending this sunday evening and it was really funny, because we were in a very nice pub on friday evening and walking down the street where i find a nice church, where i saw a funny and high spire on this building. But after a calling a taxi, we are reached the pub and have a great party. On sunday afternoon and evening, we are chilled out the day and talking about god and the world, we watched some hd films and looked a the nice skyline of belfast.

IT-Work

26.04. was my realy first day at work. At the previous day I only get some information about the company. So I went to the bus in the morning and fortunately this is the final stop – So I have allways a good seat. Because the streets are very crowded the bus needs about a half hour to get to the university.
Jannik and me have our own computer at work. It is located in a room of other computers for students. The PC isn’t the latest. For IT-Experts: it is a Intel Pentium P4. But they is also Windows 7 installed and they worked very stable. However they is some problem: If the computer must work with more power, e.g. for Google Maps, the fan spins so loud like a helicopter starts. In a silent enviroment where students work it isn’t pleasant.
Damion the IT-Specialist gave us some more informarmation about the project Sensors and Connected Health. Unfortunately he hasn’t a Laptop to  establish a connection to the medical device from Intelesens. So we did something else.

Shopping tour

After cleaning we did a shopping tour at Victoria square shopping mall. It has a stunning architecture. The roof is built by a dome and in the mall there is tower with an observation platform. The view is great and you have a great view over most of the city. As we were going through the shops we made our first experiences with salespersons and how it feels to go shopping in another city. We had a lot of fun and everytime it becomes easier to get in touch with the people here in Belfast. From my point of view this culture is very friendly, helpful and polite.

The first week at work

Hi guys,

first I must say, that I am with Christian in the company named Anaeko. It is a company that make many software, e.g. Service-Level-Management software, but also mobile application and small games.

Now, the first days on work are completed and I think that I have a very friendly employer. On Tuesday, my first day at work, it was a very interesting day with a interesting instruction.

Before this, we had a interview with Kevin (our contact person in Belfast) and our supervisor. Of course comes Kevin to late to the interview, what else? 😀 We and Kevin agreed the important things with our supervisor.

Cleaning Day

Today is cleaning day. During the last few days we created a plan for cleaning and today we put it into practice. Every one of us got a task and the tasks are alternating every weekend. Today Tobi had to clean the kitchen, Tim had to wipe the floors, René had clean the bathroom (1st floor) and I had to clean the other bathroom on the main floor. Everyone did a good and accurate job. The whole apartment looks very clean. It feels good and it is important to us to have clean, good smelling and hygienic living room. I feel reassured that I am living with people who have the same claims about this area. Besides it was funny to see the guys doing their jobs.

Going Out For a Run

Yesterday Oliver and me decided to go out for a run in the evening. You might think it’s unbelievable, but it’s true: sporty nerds! 😉

First we decided to take a course of approximately 3.5 km, but due to some orientation difficulties we ended up with about 5.1 km. Here you can see the running course we finally took:

It was quite interesting to see some new areas of Belfast. The view along the waterfront at Ormeau Embankment is beautiful! And of course it was a very good feeling when arriving at home again. 😀
