Some more pictures

Hello there,

I am sorry. I am tired and I seem to get a cold, so I want to go to bed. I will just upload a few pictures from my trip about the celtic culture and then sleep for a too short time. The big news I wanted to tell you has to wait until the next few days.

Middle of Week #3

Hello everyone,

the last two days have been really tiring, because we started testing the first distribution and remote installation system for the Staff-PCs. Up until now every PC was installed manually but with the rising count of workstations and Laptops my colleagues decided to implement the distribution of Windows over the network.
And my job in the last two days was to assist Graham with the testing of the system. For this purpose we occupied the training room at Cultra Manor and set up 15 new Office clients and 12 new Laptops.

Cultra Manor

In the end we had only a half remote installation, which meant we had to install most of the software and drivers manual and cost us a lot of time (10 hours on both days) but we got the Job done and the clients are ready to be handed over to their new users. But we will try to optimize the procedure and reduce the manual configuration of the clients to a minimum.

only took the picture because I played around with my camera :D
The new laptop clients

In addition to the work at the clients I installed the VPN-router yesterday and it works like a charm, we had to do a little research to find out that the ISP is using VLAN insertion for the dial up connection.
Tomorrow I will drive to Armagh with Robin to install the counterpart for the router in Cultra and set up the VPN connection and probably help Robin with a few other issues that he has to take care of. I hope to take a few nice pictures of Armagh as I will not have the chance to go there that often, mainly because it takes about 90 minutes by car to reach it.

Read you on Sunday, and to show you how beautiful my workplace is, here is a picture taken from maybe one of the highest points at the Folk Museum.

A view upon Cutra Manor and beyond

Yours sincerly,

Tobias

Friendlyness, politeness and appreciated work

Yesterday I had a bad day.

I didn’t get any further with my work, although I watched and read many about these topics.
I also called on Richard so that we could solve this problem. He told me with a smile:
“Don’t worry. No person can learn all of these in so short time. “

I told him my problem and what I know to solve it.
After the call about my second project, he asked me what I would like to do the remaining time.

I like the Irish mentality and calmness. All people are very friendly ^^.

As I am open for everything, he suggested I work on the reports again.
Today I started to research for the actual project.
I created a new WCF service and added some “DataMembers” and “DataContracts”.

After Lunch I programmed further with the aid of Deepu and Lince.

Today I wasn’t as demotivated as yesterday.
Before I finished my work today, I saved the backup from our database. It’s a routine at work.
Every day after work, Richard thanks me, eventhough I am no big help.
This is a nice feeling, because in germany my work is not appreciated as much.

Actually the weather isn’t the best right now, but I hope that we will have sunshine at the weekend.
I will propably meet with someone I got to know, (I hope me English is good enough :D), and visit the coast with my colleagues.

See you later

#7 – The Harbor

HeyHey, Stefan here.

As Erik already wrote we wanted to go to the harbor on Saturday. Well actually we did go there. Sadly we went to the wrong one, all we could see was walls and fences – there was no way to enter.

The way there itself was incredibly nice (and Erik provided you a great picture). As indicated the harbor itself was a disappiontment. But we will look for the „real thing“ some other weekend of course.

Or way home was decent again, we took our time and sat down next to the river, where we saw a really damn old lift-bridge-thingy.

Next blog I will tell you a bit about me „on site“ at a golf club.

See you then!

Nothing really new…

Hi folks, it’s me again.

Nothing really new happened since the last post.

At work, I was able to advance in my PHP logic and finally was able to implement the correct SQL syntax so that we can now correctly insert, select, update or delete something in our database.

Yesterday we found out that we can see the match between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid.

A TV Channel here in Dublin was broadcasting the match and we were gathering around our small TV and were enjoying the match.

After the match, we were all euphoric and now we want to see a German final.

Well, I think that’s all for today.

At the weekend we plan to go out again but this time we want to go in pub or in a club.

See you soon.

Markus
