My first two days in Ireland

Yesterday we arrived in dublin. I think it is a very beautiful little city. At first we explored our penthouse appartment. It’s a nice composition of luxus and standart.

Furthermore it’s in the centre of Dublin. Shortly after moving into the rooms we went down the city and looked for a super-market. The prices here are much higher than in Germany. In the afternoon we visited a nice typical irish pub (o’sheas). It was a very nice place and the food as well as the guinnes were very delicious. After our meals we went in a little club.The people in dublin are very diffrent, but i like this.
Today, after the morning sport, we went in the city center and organized a bus-ticket and a phone card. The bus-ticket was very expensive
but the phone card is much cheaper than in Germany. And now i have cook our dinner and we to die away the day.

We arrived, alive!

Dear Reader,

after a hard flight besides my fellow Lars Holstein we landed in Dublin at 1pm. Our first informations and the long way to the hotel was arrange by a funny guy with an „OSXIMT“ sign at the airport. After we arrived on our hotel we were a little bit shocked. The apartment compete with a ruin and is way to small for 4 guys for 8 weeks. It’s really frustrating  espacially after the first informations from our colleagues about their apartments.

Positive is the position of our hotel. We were shopping in the supermarket and the diplomatistarea of dublin is 2 minutes away. We also see alot of nice churches and other awesome buildings.

Hopefully my next post can be more positiv but  a the moment these are the only things i can report of.  I am full of hope that Margaret or the hotel can manage our problem.

#1 – First thoughts, first steps, first actions

Hey everybody,

first i’d like to talk about the way I am thinking of writing this Blog. I thought that I could do it in the diary form like mostly everyone else will, or in a more topic related way. I guess I will mix both somehow, whatever feels better at time and day.

Also, as I have no camera, pictures will be some kind of an issue. I of course will be able to borrow cameras of my „roommates“, but we haven’t had the opportunity to take a lot of pictures yet (I will try to edit this later and add pictures). The reasoning brings me already to the actual core of this Blog-Entry – The first impressions.

I will cut the takeoff and arrival at the airport short, as my colleages will surely cover that and my feelings do match theirs mostly.

At the second we got out of the bus at our hostel, he went on. And there we were now standing in front of that house being told to just enter. The man at the reception knew that students from an internship would arrive. He explained the way to the appartment. Still we got lost – badly! This house is like the incarnation of the craziest maze ever invented. We somehow made it back to the reception and he explained it again. Of course we did understand the way. Yet, we got lost again. We found someone from the staff and she was able to bring us to our place. Who could have thought that we had to go through the firedoor?

The appartment is both, big and small at the same time (remember the maze house? the apartment is the same!)

Erik and I got an incredibly small room for us while Robert and Christoph got the bigger one. Upstairs is the living room which includes the kitchen.

We headed out quite soon after we stored our luggage.

The first impressions outside of our house, including the super-market prices and pub density will be topic in the next blog-entry, so keep on reading!

The Journey starts…

Hi everyone,

today our Journey starts. At about 11:20 a.m. the departure began and we were getting excited more and more.
We arrived at 12:36 p.m. at the Dublin Airport. The flight went really smooth with only minor turbulences.

The weather was awesome at our arrival. The Sun was shining and it was pretty warm outside.

After we left the airport, we were brought to our accommodations here in Dublin by car.

Following are two pictures I made while we were driving through the city.

 

 

 

After the check in at our apartment, located at Lad Lane, we took the chance to discover some of our surrounding area.
We found some interessting spots, like Pubs and some possibilities to buy some food.

We „visited“ a Burger King restaurant and were absolutly shocked about the price differences between Berlin and Dublin.

 

 

If we want to go to the shopping sites, we have to cross a small canal.
The possibilities to cross it look like the following:

 

 

We still have to buy some things that we need. Like Toiletepaper or some cheap dishtowels.

Our apartment itself is functional but clean, not more. Right now we are four people in here but the apartment is way too small. It would only suite two.
The kitchen is relatively small but should meet our needs.

 

 

The view from our balcony is really pretty. I will try to make a photo at sunset on the next days but the view at about 14 p.m. is also pretty nice.

 

 

This was our first day in Dublin. Hopefully the other days will be at least the same or even better.
As for me, I am enjoying a small packet of salty snack biscuits and let the day end.
