Cliffs of Moher and than… hoarse

The last sightseeing trip was to the Cliffs of Moher, certainly I had to do.
I was also there with my colleagues Tino.

That was really impressive, but I think I mustn’t upload any pictures from this great cliffs, because Marco has in his entry „See the Cliffs of Moher“ really good pictures. I have many pictures, but we have not enough space and that would be really the same like marco’s.
We walked far along the cliffs until the peak in the south. The weather was also good except in the time, where were waiting for the bus.

Then… on sunday… we know it all, was the World Cup game, Germany against England. I have seen this game in a pub/club called Fitzsimons, on a screen with beamer.
There I have met many germans. But I thinks the english were a bit in the majority. And these english were not so happy after the first half time. 🙂 That I can understand…
Everyone knows the result, 4:1. All Germans, shouting very loudly as germany scored, especially the first two goals, so that I was hoarse.
It was really an awesome game.

So then… cu

Remaining Days…

Without today there are only three more days left. For me its hard to beliefe, time went by so fast. I’m lucky if I did half of the things I wanted to do the time I’m here. By the way.. our last Weekend was great (Houseparty, Football and Beach.. nothing more to say here 😉 ).
There is not much to tell about my work, website still is ready but not online. I’m running out of work at the moment and there is nothing more to do for me in this company. I’ll try to enjoy the last working days here and hopefully meet a few of my new friends here so I’m able to say goodby to them.

Regards, Tim

Almost done and I will miss it

Well almost done, the time here is as good as over. There are only 2 Weeks and one Weekend left (only one Weekend, damn..). Lee and me have been to Belfast this Saturday to visit our collegues there and the Giants Causeway. One more great memory to recall in the future, it was really impressive and we had luck with the weather, sun almost everywhere.

When we came back to Dublin on Sunday evening, for me, it felt like I was coming home. Wired feeling when you know you don’t really live here and that you’r going back to Berlin in a few days.
I know I will miss the time and the people I met here and I will surely be coming back one day.

I can say almost the same about my work, the website is ready and there are only small bugs John (my boss) wants to be changed. The last two weeks I will write a Documentation about what I’ve done so people after me are able to work witth what I’ve created. The only thing that is different is that I won’t miss the work here. It was okay for the time I’m here but much longer and I would go crazy.

Thats it for the moment…

Cheers, Tim

the last week…

Hi folks!
At work we occupied with bugs and translations, like the last weeks. That means we have to find bugs on www1.hostelworld.com, this is the beta website with a new design and new functions. During the next few weeks the beta website of hostelworld should be transfered to the first website of hostelworld.

At Friday I took a girl from germany over the city of Dublin and our apartment, after I picked she up from the airport.
At Saturday we looked some sights of Dublin and went by the tram with 2 peers of the other apartment to a big shopping center. On Sunday we visited the „Irish National War Memorial Park“, thats a ancient monument from the first world war. After that we cut across the biggest park of Dublin, the „Phoenix Park“ and saw some deers there. In the evening we enjoyed the brilliant win of Germany in a bar with 11 screens.

„54, 74, 90, 2010
Yes we all join in
With the heart in the hand and the passion in the leg
We will be World Champion.“

I hand the pictures of some sights in later.
Greetz to Belfast but principally to Berlin!

Visits… and rainy days

The last Wekkend Mr. Bavar and Mrs. Janecke were to visit us! On Friday we met her in a pub at her hotel. We talked and drank. But not to much, because they wanted to get the plane to home, unfortunately they could not so long.
So, then we are went further in the club, called „Fitzsimons“, and since we did party, until we „kicked out“ are… as ever… so 3pm.

On Saturday I was at the Guinness Brewery. It is unfortunately not purely in the right Brewery. For visitors, there is the Guinness Storehouse, where the most important parts of the factory were adjusted. It is seven floors high and when you reach the top, you get a pint (which is 568ml) for free.
There you can see over the city and until the sea. But, like I sad, the weather was not so good this Weekend.

On Sunday, we were initially in the Q-Bar, where we drank a beer and chilled. Then we went into the adjoining club, called „Twenty One“. This is a club, which play R&B and a bit charts,  mostly. What we did not know, this evening was a foam party there. Yeah … It was super fun, although I was at the end pretty wet, of course. At this point, greetings to Germany! 😉 And yes, we have long celebrated 🙂 … because we had Monday one holiday. It was a spring holiday.

The beautiful weather we have sent to Germany this weekend! For here it is very rainy. … Ireland, as I imagined!

Since tuesday, Mr. Schlenger is here in Dublin to visit us. And we were tuesday and yesterday with him in a pub, called Porterhouse.

I wanted a few pictures to upload, but there is not enough space and that although the pictures of me are gone. Maybe I can make up for it yet.

Let’s talk business

A big warm Hello to all my loyal readers (as if I have any 😉 )

On thursday I talked to Chris about how some of us write their blog entries very infrequently. I am one of them too. Sometimes I am not motivated to write something and other times I simply forget that I have to…

But fortunately Mr. Bavar visited us at Web Reservations International on thursday too. We talked for a while then and on friday everyone went for a drink. But after hitting the gym I didn’t feel like going out, so I stayed at home. (had I known that Sebastian would be there, I would probably have overcome myself – you gotta tell me such things buddy 😉 )

Mr. Bavar also reminded us that we agreed to write articles more regularly and more about work-related topics as well. He is right, we are here to improve our English language skills, to learn about work methods in another country and about similarities and differences.

So let’s talk business!

At Web Reservations International Chris and I work in the test department. Currently they have 5 traveling sites online on which you can get information about your preferred travel locations, can buy travel guides and can book hostels, hotels and even tours.

Chris and I check these sites for bugs and after having finished most of that showed some initiative of our own and offered to improve the translations on some of the German language sites. This idea was happily welcome by Philip, our superior in the test department. We finished this task very fast and are back to testing and reporting bugs once again.

In the next article I will tell you more.

So stay tuned…

A Dublin Night

Hello to all!
I think we now had the first days, where the weather was not so good.
But we have made the best of it …
David and Sebastian from Belfast visited us on Saturday, also Marco and Alex, from Herberton apartment were there. We drank a lot of beer in our apartment; we knew how expensive is the evening. see David’s and Lee’s entry.
Then we went to a pub which is called by all: “Le Cirk”, go there and drank a beer and have moved on.

Then we landed in the Tempelbar Street, where we found a club with live music and we have gone into it. The name of this club I do not remember. There we saw also Lena’s win at Euro Vision Song Contest. It was there on television. Then, when David and Sebastian have spent enough money, we have brought them to the bus station.

But for us was the evening of course not over yet! We went to a pub, where we picked up two other friends of Lee. With which we went into the “Porter House”. A very nice club, which brews their own beer!
But unfortunately the club closed about 3am and we went home.

See you next time!
bye

Autobahn and über-wealthy

This blog was supposed to be online yesterday but our internet connection was down a couple of hours. That’s why I am late again.

Third Week

So today is our relaxed Day, we decided to stay at home in the evening so got some time to write another blog.
This Tuesday we went to a pub/club called “Diceys Garden” a second time. There are two dance floors. One is outside in the “Garden” and another inside. Every Tuesday a band is playing on the floor inside, unfortunately the same band every week and the same songs, too. That’s why I probably will not go there again but I really recommend going there at least one time.

On Wednesday we just played a round of billiard which is really expensive I think. By now we found two billiard saloons here in Dublin. At the cheaper one you pay 1€ for 6 minutes to play. That’s why we just play for half an hour.
On Thursday evening Tim and I have been to “Le Cirk” with some Brazilian people I told you about. I got the picture from the Brazilian BBQ now. Here it is.

At the pub some Bands were playing Live Music. They seemed to be very young but still they played very good.
Friday evening after being on a party we went to a pub with a bunch of young people we meet on the street. After leaving the pub we had to walk home in the rain. Thats only the second time since we arrived here in Dublin that I got wet from the rain. I hope at Berlin there is nice weather too?
Saturday afternoon we went to a game of football. David and Sebastian were visiting us that day. I won’t talk about the game much because I think Sebastian is the right man for doing that. David however mentioned the tiny entrance to the Stadium in his blog and here is a picture I took. I even had to go sideways to get through.

In the evening we went to the pub “Le Cirk” again, but this time it was quite boring. We went there to early the pub was quite empty. So we decided to go to Buskers a pub/club because some musicians where playing live music. Sadly they stopped five minutes after we entered the pub. Still we had a great time. Sometime after midnight David and Sebastian left to get back to Belfast. Afterwards we went to one of the two Porterhouses in Dublin. Actually it is a pub but like most pubs there is a dance floor and most of the people were dancing. At the Porterhouse they sell a beer called “Porterhouse Red” which is brewed by the Porterhouse itself. It’s similar to Guinness and Smithwicks and for my taste somewhere between, it’s a pretty good one. We meet some Spanish/Portuguese/Brazilian friends at the pub and had a good time until the Pub closed sometime around 3am.
There is another picture from the one time Tim and I went to the beach I wanted to share with you. When you see it you wouldn’t believe that I took this picture in Ireland rather than Spain or another Mediterranean country. That’s what it felt like to be on the beach.

Today we went to the Soul festival picnic at a park near our apartment. There were basically some live bands playing. I took some videos and want to share the Band called “The Barley Mob” with you.

Learning French, teaching German
Well I am hanging around a lot of French, Italian and Spanish people. Most of them at least know some German words. For example I want to ride the autobahn sometime, a Japanese guy told me. Of course you have to teach the German word for cheers… Prost not Bost, which by the way is: Kampai in Japanese. So besides learning some Japanese I improve my French too. By the time I am able to have a simple conversation in French, while at first I had difficulties to think of a lot of French words.

I read through the newspaper some morning last week and stumble across the word creation über-wealthy in the newspaper. It was an article about some rich people. Thought that was quiet funny.

Money
As David mention in his blog Dublin is really expensive.
For a pint of beer you got to pay 4€ if you find a cheap pub. Often you will pay 4.50€ to 5.50€ for one pint. (Diceys 2€ for one pint each Tue – 5€ entrance)
We buy all our food at Tesco, the cheapest supermarket but sill expensive. By now we actually just ate at home to save some money. A Cheeseburger is about 1.70€ at Mc D and BK.
Cloths however are quite cheap especially at Pennys where I got a sweatshirt for about 15€ and some shirts for 11€ each.
A one way ticket for the bus is about 1.15€ to get to the city center. If you want to go further you have to buy up to 2.20€. Gladly I got a monthly ticket from our funding.
In the end it is quite expensive to go out in the evening and as David said, but the best opportunity to speak English is when you go out somewhere. At work I don’t get the chance to speak English very often because everyone is just working including me. Still I used my time and money here very well by now.

Later,
Lionel

‚The Academy‘ and the club ’21‘

Hi everyone,

If you are following my blog you know that I wrote about the Dublin nightlife already. Here comes another article about that topic.

Yesterday evening, after a usual work day, which is well described by my roommate Chris in his blog entry from morning to night, I did the usual. I went to the gym with my other roommates Ben and Flo. Although we didn’t feel like it, we pushed really hard (literally 😛 ). Afterwards my legs were a little bit sore so I was thinking about not going out… BUT on ‚The Academys‘ website it said ‚free entry to the RnB night from 22:30pm to 23:00pm‘. After relaxing on the couch for half an hour or so my legs felt better and I started to dress myself all up.

After a quick ride with the Luas and a short walk I arrived at the club. But my friends, which arrived almost simultaneously and I couldn’t enter because the concert given, should have taken one more hour. So we left and asked some pedestrians if they knew another club nearby. They told us about the club ’21‘. After asking a couple more pedestrians we finally found it. We thought the name of the club is related to minimum age you can enter with. But although our group of six had 2 ‚youngsters‘ in it we all got in without any problems. The entry fee was 10€, the usual fee in Dublin without concessions.

Then the party finally started. The club had a VJ, playing live DVD videos on several plasma screens, only one floor but the whole club basically consisted of that floor. There were some pool tables in the back, a lot of chillout zones and a lot of beautiful girls on the floor which shook their bodys very sexily

Later that evening, while taking a short break outside, I was introduced to some German girls once again. Their Irish friend had already stolen my hat in a playful manner several times inside the club. (that hat was stolen like hell… 😉 ) We went in again, danced and fooled around until the club closed at 2:30am sharp.

Afterwards my two roomies went home while the rest of us took a bite at MCD and Lundis respectively before seperating and heading home in different directions.

from morning to night

Hi folks!

At Monday it was back to the rat race. This work week wasn’t very varied. Up at 7.30 am and sometimes I get up on the wrong side of bed… At 9 o’clock I start with work. But with an empty bag cannot stand upright. So we go at the break to „Laundis“ and buy the „Weekly Madness“(sandwich) for only 2€ at 1 o’clock pm. At work we’re looking for bugs and test them (every day) and translate some English strings into German or bad German into understandable German. After work we go to our apartment and eat something again (6.15 pm). Afterwards we do a lot of sport at gym or do nothing and watch a movie… However I think the weekend will be better…

See you later…
