The last days!
Today I went out as usually. I need around 45 minutes to get to my workplace. Normally, I leave my house around 8am because I have to be there at 9am, considering every day is a buffer of around 15 minutes. Normally, I don’t need this time, but today an accident happened with the bus in front of mine. The bus in front crashed with another car. This was a very small road so there was a fast and huge traffic jam. I asked my bus driver, if he can open the door for me. The bus driver opened the door and I could walk to the next bus stop. When I saw the crashed bus, I was a bit shocked. The windshield from the bus was completely cracked and the rear window from the car was no longer there, but I kept walking and ignored it because the police were already there.
Getting close to the end
At the time of writing this I have 4 days, 2 hours,9 minutes and 11 seconds left in London, as long as our flight isn’t delayed. I really can’t wait to get back. Today I did more work to get the back room ready for students. „Getting close to the end“ weiterlesen
My Monday
My last week here started with a bit of an unusual Monday. I started off writing two blog entries in the morning and after that the director called me into the virtual school room and told me that all their students that were supposed to be there all ditched them and they had no one to make phone calls. „My Monday“ weiterlesen
Arriving in Cambridge – what emotional moments
I woke up in the morning and was very happy. Because my highlight of our stay was about to begin. I had basically everything prepared on the day before. All I needed to do was to take the cake and some cupcakes out of the fridge to take them with me as a small present.
At Abbey Wood station I wanted to buy a ticket in combination with my existing Oyster Card and asked for some advice. However, I was told I should buy a ticket at Liverpool Street station where he advised to change to a train via Stansted because of better prices.
At the end, I went from King’s Cross nevertheless because I didn’t want to spend at least half an hour more. On the train a man from India sat on the other side. I had a conversation with him. He was on his way with his family so his wife and two children to see Cambridge his first time. I recommended him a nice walk along the Cam, my favourite ice cream shop and some sights to see. When I arrived I was really happy and my former host mother and I hugged each other. The first thing we did was to have a belated breakfast of some toast with jam or chili garlic chutney. Meanwhile we had a long chat with each other and there came so many memories to light. I was allocated the bedroom for me the following night. It was the same bedroom like two years ago. As soon as I saw the room I remembered the situation for me there. For example, that I read my first English book after secondary school there, maybe my third one totally. Its name is Touching the Void and it is a true-life story about a mysterious survival while ice climbing on the mountains.
We went outside to a nice park next to their home and had a walk all around that park. It reminded me of my jogging times which I had there regularly two years ago. And there is an awesome area of fitness devices – actually a public fitness centre outside. What is more, the park does not close in the evening like parks in London do. My host called her husband to ask him when he will come. Shortly later, when we reached the entrance path to the house again, he was there cutting nettles to make it more accessible. When he saw me he rejoiced my name. Of course, we hugged each other too and I really cannot compare these moments with other during my whole stay here.
A Monday with something new to do
Today I could start setting up the new Windows 10 computers I had prepared during the last weeks.
Some last minute changes and settings had to be made (for example anti virus software had to be installed and database updates made).
But noone wanted them.
They would rather keep using very outdated Windows 7 computers than the (in fairness refurbished) new computers.
That opinion quickly faded though as the first employee saw how much faster the new computers booted and started software.
The rest of the week will mostly likely be the same as today with more or less support to the staff.
Finally a weekend well spend (Late entry)
I finally got around to buy almost all of the souvenirs for my friends, which involved a walk from Cutty Sark to Canary Wharf and back.
In the evening I met up with a few others of our group to have a few drinks, with aching feet and bones.
I had accumulated over 24 thousand steps that day which is more than twice my usual high.
Sunday then was a lazy day with just a small lunch with a friend and not much more.
Everyday something new, today a fire
Today began my last week in the United Kingdom. I started my work as usual with my programming tasks. Finally now, I fixed many bugs and the program is running perfectly. I still have some small problems but I will debug them tomorrow.
In the evening I went out for my daily workout, but before that I went to a supermarket and got an apple and an apple juice as little snack, to get some energy. After around 30 minutes of workout, Ben joined me.
Last meeting with intern europe
Today marks the start of the last week of our internship here in Northern Ireland. This is also the reason why we got an appointment with the agency today. „Last meeting with intern europe“ weiterlesen
Beginnig of the last week
Today marks the beginning of the last week for this internship. It also means that my documentation about EHS Software and the corresponding market needs to be as complete as possible at the end of this week. At least my source list should be sorted after included and not included as well as usable and the topic of the source. They also told me that later this week I will have to put in additional Data into the Database and we will test a newer Version of the Dashboard for their Application.
