Belfast Titanic Museum | Titanic Quarter

Day 42 12.05.2018 Saturday

On Saturday my roommates and I visited the Belfast Titanic Museum.

I realized that I was already pretty near to the museum when I’ve visited Agnew Porsche the last time because this site is located in the Titanic Quarter.

In the museum, you can learn about the different stages of the construction of the Titanic. You can also gather some background information like the reason why the Titanic was built in Belfast or how it was launched.

There was also a small Titanic Museum Roller Coaster where you can hear conversations of the construction workers and see images while the carriage moved through the different stages. It was really interesting to hear what they were thinking. „Belfast Titanic Museum | Titanic Quarter“ weiterlesen

Home gym workout

Day 40&41 10.05-11.05.2018 Thursday&Friday

On Thursday my department manager took a day off because he already worked too much overtime during the last weeks. I think it is very convenient to have flexible
working hours in the IT when you have family. Today I asked the 2nd Line Support
Engineer how to map network drives per script and also about how to restrict usb ports to the users. Then I made some inquiries about how to create a link aggregation in visio. This knowledge could come in handy in case I’ll have to design a network. During the rest of the time I gathered information for my future CCNP route exam.

After my work I’ve met Niall for a workout session at his home studio. Therefore I had to walk to the Belfast Great Victoria Street Railway Station. It took me around 40 minutes to get there. I had to hurry to catch the train or otherwise we would have to take another which would need one hour to get to Moira. The express train only needed 25 minutes. „Home gym workout“ weiterlesen

Future Firewall upgrade | Visio Stencils | EIRP AP

Day 38&39 08.05-09.05.2018 Tuesday&Wednesday

On Tuesday my department manager and I took care of the regular weekly duties. For the inventory, we needed to count the software licenses which we have deployed in our surroundings. Someone complained about the wireless LAN so we’ve also checked the access points on one site and discovered that the AP reduces their EiRP (Effective Isotropic Radiated Power) because there was a conflict with another AP. This unit tells the amount of power needed to achieve a certain power density at a specific distance from the source. To solve this problem we had to reboot the AP. Due to this, the device will automatically set its EIRP to the highest lvl so the user could receive a stronger wifi signal.

Afterwards, I started to upgrade some new Firewalls to exchange some failed/ soon going to fail devices. „Future Firewall upgrade | Visio Stencils | EIRP AP“ weiterlesen

Belfast City Marathon 2018 | #Hit the firewall | Feast day

Day 37 07.05.2018 Monday

On Monday I had a day off from work because of it being a feast day. I stayed at home because the blister on my foot was still very painful. It wasn’t getting any better because of my new business shoes and the fact that I had to walk much more than I was used to in Berlin. While I stayed at home and didn’t move at all, my IT-team from agnew was taking part in the Belfast City Marathon 2018 to raise money for the Cancer Fund for Children. The Agnew group aimed to raise 150 000 pound in 2 year for this cause.

In the intranet I found many articles about different events that they already contributed to. It really impressed because they’ve already raised a lot of money.

One of this events was the marathon. They also participated in events like the “Climb Slieve Donard” which is a part of the Mourne Mountains. It is the highest peak in Northern Ireland and in the wider province of Ulster. During the event you have to climb it. „Belfast City Marathon 2018 | #Hit the firewall | Feast day“ weiterlesen

Barbeque in our house

Day 36 06.05.2018 Sunday

On Sunday I decided get some rest because my foot was hurting very bad. I had a large blister on my toe because of all the walking, so every step I made was painful. While I stayed at home my roommates visited the St. Georges Market again. Our Landlord came to refill our water boiler because we asked him to and didn’t knew how to do it.

It was a very sunny day so we had a barbeque. The barbeque was very delicious. It is really convenient to have a grill at the back of the house. In Germany I always have to go to a park with determined barbeque areas for a barbeque. It was very easy to clean the grill because you can use the sink inside the house instead of using a water bottle while being at the park. After we finished our meal we played “spyfall”. “Spyfall” is a game (you can find it online) where one or two people of your group are the spies. The others have to figure out, who the spies while the spies have figure out the location of the other without being caught. „Barbeque in our house“ weiterlesen

Agent X in belfast city

Day 35 05.05.2018 Saturday

On Saturday a roommate of mine woke up early because it was the “free comic day” where you could get comic samples for free. For her it was definitive worth it because she grabbed a lot of comics as well as a hulk figure which she wasn’t aware of.

Later my roommates and I played ‘Agent X’ by Qeevee GmbH at the city centre with 2 schoolmates. That’s why we met in front of the City Hall. “Agent X” is a GPS based mobile game where one of you is the Agent X and has to hide while the others have to catch him. You can set a time limit as well as determine how often the position of agent X will be displayed to the others. „Agent X in belfast city“ weiterlesen

Routine

Day 34 04.05.2018 Friday

Like every Friday my department manager and I did some server clean up to free some space. We’ve been informed that one site didn’t display a wifi SSID so we had to create a new VSC Profile at the wireless controller. At this VSC Profile you had to define the display name (SSID) as well as the authentication it uses, etc. After a while we’ve received a message that one laptop couldn’t open an internal website. That’s why my department manager showed me some Network Policy Server (NPS) and  Radius server. He thought that it might be an authentication problem. „Routine“ weiterlesen

Afib half time meeting

Day 32&33 02.05-03.05.2018

Wednesday and Thursday were a little bit different because I was allowed to leave work earlier because of a meeting. On  Wednesday I had a meeting with my afib coordinator from our homecompany organisation [Charité, Max Planck Institute for Human Development, Free University Berlin).

He wanted to make sure that we had no issues with our work experience, accommodation or the company. We drank some coffee and hot chocolate together and ate tacos and burritos at “boojum”.

At the company I had to create a network route to a new printer, create new firewall rules and reactivate an account because a user had an issue with logging in to our domain. Afterwards I had to draw a network rack again for upcoming plannings. „Afib half time meeting“ weiterlesen

New project | new accommodation | half time

Day 30&31 30.04-01.05.2018 Monday&Tuesday

On Monday I’ve prepared the wireless access points for the new project. I’ve documented their specifications and installed them. Afterwards, my department manager showed me how to backup an exchange server and explained to me the things you’ll have to consider when doing so while your company is in operation. We also had to go to one site to create nat and ACLs rules on a router for the CCTV.

Since Giang and I weren’t happy with our accommodation, we’ve asked Intern Europe, if we could move into the house of our classmates, which had a few empty beds left. We wanted to move because where were a few problems with our house: many things were broken and there was mould in the bathroom as well as in our room. The living situation just wasn’t running well. The accommodation of our schoolmates was a lot better than ours so Intern Europe allowed us to move. We chose to move instantly, so we’ve grabbed our belongings as soon as we were allowed to. „New project | new accommodation | half time“ weiterlesen

Belfast Zoological Gardens

Day 29 29.04.2018 Sonntag

On Sunday we’ve visited the Belfast Zoo. If you ever want to visit it as a student make sure to bring your student ID with you. Because of a discount you’ll have to pay only 6 pounds instead of 13. The day was very sunny and warm. So we the chance was quite big to see a lot of animals outside of their hiding places. At the zoo you can find a lot of different types of animals, for example mammals, amphibians, birds, invertebrates, reptiles and native species. You only have to consider that you’ll have to walk uphill to get to the zoo and that you’ll also have to walk a lot to get a look at all animals. I think I liked the meerkats the most because they look like little humans when they are standing up. „Belfast Zoological Gardens“ weiterlesen
