3D Printing at Work

Today I noticed that I never mentioned in any blog that we have a 3D printer on work. Luckily we are allowed to „play around“ with it because we need to find out which settings you should use. Since almost day one the printer hardly stands still because we are basically always printing. After the first failed models, there are now more and more that looks really good. For example we printed a support for the printer that holds the material roll. Indeed this was a very good idea since it always happened that the material has not unrolled well.

Among other things I wasn’t much outside these days because I had to do some urgent things on my webserver. Also the hole server inclusive all databases and websites had to move and bought up to date. All that cost me some time as this had to happen in a live operation and unfortunately in one configuration were some stupid errors. Typical layer 8 problem.

Video calling my cat

This might be my worst or best title yet. Doesn’t it sound like a good premise for a new RTL2 reality show? Or a new animal TV format for VOX? But it would probably turn out boring, nothing scandalous nor heart-breaking would happen. And I’d have to agree, video calling my cat wasn’t really that exciting, considering he ignored me the whole 5 minutes (I am sure it wasn’t intentional). Video calling humans – my parents and my sister, did make more sense. And it was nice to see them again. Even though there are some things I miss from back home, I am not homesick (yet).

Relaxed monday

After I played Ingress and explored Belfast almost the whole weekend; a new week starts. Luckily on mondays the museum is closed for public. Arrived at work we first talked a long time about the still available construction site at home in our bathroom. Alone that would be an article worth. Later that day as we were on our way to the supermarket, Konrad and I randomly came on the subject to buy a new soundsystem for our home, but suddenly our colleagues were so nice to lend us one from their stock. Now we can listen to music from our laptop without the tinny quality. After lunchtime we drove together with a colleague to the Ulster museum to finish some tasks. The first task was only to change the SD card in one of the information tables. As the next task we updated the AntiVirus software on some computers because of the malware known from the weekend. After we had all done our colleague was so nice to bring us home, even the Ulster museum isn’t far away from that. We used the remaining free time to shop and cook some food. Before the day was finally over I had some time to also install some updates on my windows and I could even work on one of my projects.

Expectations were met

…the weather is finally behaving like it should be. The faint memory of the pleasant sunshine last week is slowly fading. It’s raining right now. It was raining 2 hours ago too. And it will rain in the evening. Maybe you can guess which one of my possessions back from Germany was the first to give up on working? It was my umbrella. Lucky me. It broke down in the middle of a shower. That’s when the hunt for an umbrella started. And let me just say, it’s ridiculous how hard it was to find a new umbrella. Many small boutiques didn’t offer any. I was desperate. I even tried to find one in some of the kiosks nearby. Here is another guess for you, where to you think I finally found an umbrella? You are wrong. It was in a cancer research shop. „Expectations were met“ weiterlesen

The first weekend and some overall thoughts

Today I thought about writing about the whole weekend, since it was, in my opinion, not enough to fill one whole article with one day. Thus I’ll start with Saturday, where we were at the St. George’s Market. It is, as the name already says, a rather big market where you can buy fresh made food, some art or jewellery and even meat that is brought fresh from the local farms. The whole market is in a big open building sou you can walk around rather freely.

The Weekend

My weekend was really good but I had a to struggle with coughing for like 3 days, so I spend my weekend at home only on Saturday I was in the city with a friend to get a Coffee.
But I also had some work to do at Saturday, at 1pm some guy knocked on my door called Harry.
A first I thought some of our house mates knocked on or door but it was a craftsman because René and I wrote an e-mail to the Helpline from Intern Europe about a damaged closet and a commode.

St. Georg’s Market

This was our first weekend and we decided to visit the St. Georg’s Market. Built between 1890 and 1896, it is one of Belfast’s oldest attractions. Market stalls sell a diverse range of products from fish, to antiques and fresh fruit. We planned to get there at one o’ clock AM. Some colleagues at CAPITA told me some musts to see there. My supervisor owns a stand and sells tea. When we arrived at the „St. Georg’s Market“ weiterlesen
